A cover and a method of manufacturing a cover for a vehicle accessory such as an illuminated vanity mirror visor. The cover includes a planar generally rectangular core, preferably of a fiberboard material, which is covered on opposite surfaces by an upholstery material. The combination of upholstery and core is placed in an injection molding machine and a rim is molded around the periphery of the upholstered core. The rim provides both the function of finishing the edge of the cover, as well as providing structural rigidity at the outer periphery of the cover for strength and stability. One edge of the rim may integrally include hinge means for pivotally attaching the cover to the accessory.

Vanity mirror visor cover

A visor system includes a generally planar visor body having parallel guide rails extending along opposite sides and extending beyond the visor body. The rails preferably have a circular cross-section and are slideably received in a pair of spaced polymeric guide tracks having slots of corresponding cross-section. The guide tracks in the preferred embodiment are defined by extruded members mounted in parallel spaced relationship to each other on the vehicle headliner for sliding movement of the visor panel in the space between the vehicle roof and the headliner. In a preferred embodiment, the guide rails are defined by a polymeric U-shaped circular rod extending around three sides of the visor panel and can be integrally formed with the visor panel or separately attached thereto.

Rear window sliding visor

The present invention includes a spring clip hinge for pivotally attaching a cover to the body of a vehicle accessory such as a visor such that the cover is urged toward an open or a closed position. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the spring-clip hinge is an integral S-shaped member defining opposed sockets with one socket receiving the accessory body for mounting the hinge to the body, and the remaining socket cooperatively receiving the cover for urging the cover between open and closed positions.

Visor cover hinge

A visor assembly including a pivoted cover for a vanity mirror which includes camming surfaces on the pivot socket for urging the cover between open and closed positions. In one embodiment, the visor is selectively illuminated by the operation of a cover controlled switch. In another embodiment, the mirror and cover assembly is snap fitted within the visor.

Visor

A visor control comprises a U-shaped spring clamp with inwardly converging sides terminating in inwardly projecting rounded tips which circumscribe a portion of the visor rod in all positions of adjustment. The sides of the clamp include alternately staggered slots which cooperate with alternately staggered lobes and flats disposed along the longitudinal axis of the visor pivot rod for selectively camming the visor into a snap-up raised stored position and spreading the sides to frictionally hold the visor rod therebetween when the visor is lowered to a use position. A tang extends from a portion of at least one of the sides of the U-shaped clamp and extends into a recess in the body of the visor to hold the clamp against rotation.
