A method for bending a perimeter light and a perimeter light for illuminating curved surfaces. One embodiment of a bending method according to the present invention comprises heating a perimeter light to make it pliable. A radius tool is then provided having a curved surface with a shape and radius for the desired bend in the perimeter light. The heated perimeter light is mounted to the radius tool curved surface. The perimeter light is then cooled and removed from the radius tool. One embodiment of a bent elongated perimeter light according to the present invention comprises an array of light sources and an elongated tube bent to match a curve or shape. The array of light sources is disposed within the tube and the tube transmits and disperses the light from the array to give the appearance that said array of light sources is a continuous light source. The array of light sources is cuttable at intervals to shorten the array while allowing the remaining light sources in the array to emit light. The tube is also cuttable to match the length of the array. A system for mounting perimeter lights to body has straight and curved surfaces comprises a plurality of straight and bent elongated perimeter lights that are mountable in a daisy-chain to the straight and curved surfaces.

Bent perimeter lighting and method for fabricating

The present invention provides various embodiments for apparatuses, systems, and methods for lighting devices used in shelving, displays, and the like. Some embodiments provide lighting device comprising elongated extrusions with a first surface and a second surface proximate the first surface. The second surface may be reflective. One or more light emitting devices may be mounted at the first surface of the extrusion. The first surface is angled with respect to the second surface such that at least a portion of the light emitted from the light emitting devices reaches the second surface. If the second surface is reflective, at least a portion of the emitted light will be reflected from the second surface. A protective and possibly light diffusive lens may be provided between the first and second surfaces. In other embodiments, lighting systems may be provided with a plurality of lighting devices as described above. One or more power transfer devices may be provided to connect the lighting devices in vertical and/or horizontal arrangements, and at least one power supply may be provided to power the power transfer devices and lighting devices. Additionally, dimmer devices with integrated sensors may be included to dim the lighting devices when reduced illumination is desired.

Shelf lighting device and method

A retained and a removable circuit connect together to form a closed circuit. A switching mechanism is connected between the retained and removable circuits and to a circuit break load. Upon disconnection of the circuit break load and/or the removable circuit, the switching mechanism automatically switches from an open circuit to a closed circuit to form a closed circuit with the retained circuit.

LED drive circuit

The present invention provides various embodiments for apparatuses and methods of manufacturing low profile housings for electronic and/or optoelectronic devices. Some embodiments provide low profile housings with a hollow casing comprising a first surface, second surface, and at least one lateral side surface. The housing is substantially light-diffusive. At least one cap is provided for sealing an end of the casing, with the at least one cap being sized to account for variations in the casing. At least one light emitting device, such as an LED, may be mounted within the casing. A mounting means may be included for mounting the housing. In another embodiment, a low profile housing with a first casing and second casing surrounding a majority of the first casing may be provided. At least one light emitting device, such as a double-sided printed circuit board with a plurality of LEDs, may be provided in the first casing. One or more end caps may be provided for sealing both the first and second casings while providing a ventilation feature to allow for pressure equalization. Two different wavelengths of light may be emitted from either side of the housing.

Low profile extrusion

The present invention provides various embodiments for apparatuses and methods of manufacturing low profile housings for electronic and/or optoelectronic devices. Some embodiments provide low profile housings with a hollow casing comprising a first surface, second surface, and at least one lateral side surface. The housing is substantially light-diffusive. At least one cap is provided for sealing an end of the casing, with the at least one cap being sized to account for variations in the casing. At least one light emitting device, such as an LED, may be mounted within the casing. A mounting means may be included for mounting the housing to a mounting surface.

An elongated perimeter light comprising an array of light sources that are illuminated by electric power. An elongated tube is included having a lumen along its length, with the tube being substantially solid except for the lumen. A blocking element covers a lower portion of the tube along its length, with the blocking element blocking light emission from the lower portion. The array of light sources is arranged within the lumen and transmits light through the tube and from an upper surface of the tube. The tube disperses the light from the array giving the appearance that the array of light sources is a continuous light source. The array of light sources is cuttable at intervals to shorten the array while allowing the remaining light sources in the resulting cut pieces to emit light. The tube and blocking element are cuttable to match the length of the array.

Perimeter lighting

Apparatus and methods are disclosed that control power supplies to automatically provide the appropriate voltage to drive constant current devices. A lighting system according to the present invention comprises a lighting module having a constant current device that provides a constant current in response to constant current voltage. A power supply is included that generates a power supply voltage coupled to the lighting module. A feedback circuit is included from the lighting module to the power supply causing the power supply voltage to be sufficient to provide a constant current voltage at the LED module. A method according to the present invention for generating a constant current voltage to drive a constant current device, comprises providing a drive voltage to a constant current device. The current at the constant current device is sensed a first time, and the drive voltage is increased. The current to the constant current device is sensed a second time. The drive current is held at its increased level if the current did not increase from the first to the second sensing. The increasing of the drive voltage and sensing of the current is repeated of the current did increase between the first and second sensing.

Self adjusting power supply apparatus and method

An elongated flexible lighting system according to the present invention comprises an array of light sources that are illuminated by electric power. It further comprises an elongated translucent extrusion of flexible material. The array of light sources is integral to the extrusion with said extrusion transmitting and dispersing the light from the array such that the lighting system gives the appearance that the array of light sources is a continuous light source. The elongated lighting system can be used for many different applications including, but not limited to, the lighting of structural features and illumination of sign features.

Flexible perimeter lighting apparatus

A system and method is disclosed for illuminating a plurality of emitters such as light emitting diodes (LEDs). The system comprises a plurality of LEDs and a circuit to provide a digital signal. An LED drive circuit is included comprising a first converter for converting the digital signal to one or more analog voltages. The LED drive circuit further comprises a second converter that converts the one or more analog voltages into corresponding one or more drive currents. Each of the drive currents is applied to at least one of the plurality of LEDs to cause the at least one of the plurality of LEDs to emit light. The intensity of emission of the LEDs is related to the level of the applied drive current.

LED controller and method using variable drive currents

A method for forming a protective jacket over a connection region includes connecting the leads of an electronic device to conductors such that the connections are in a connection region, placing the connection region in a mold, injecting molten protective material into the mold to cover the connection region, allowing the molten material to cool and harden and removing the connection area from the mold.

Method of making RGB spa light using light emitting diodes

A package for holding a plurality of LED modules interconnected by wire. The package comprises a plurality of cradles each of which is sized to hold a respective one of the interconnected LED modules. Each of the cradles comprises first and second opposing side vertical surfaces partially defining a space for holding its respective one of the LED modules, each of the LED modules arranged in a respective one of the cradles. A plurality of holding tabs is included at least one of which is on one of the first and second opposing side vertical surfaces of each of the cradles and protruding into the module holding space. Each of the tabs is arranged to hold its respective one of the modules in its cradle, wherein the cradles are arranged adjacent to one another with the interconnecting wire running between adjacent cradles.

Packaging for lighting modules

A modular power supply particularly adapted for mounting to standard junction boxes in a system to provide a solid state lighting system compatible power signal. One embodiment of a modular power supply for mounting to a junction box according to the present invention includes a housing holding internal electronic components and a first extension integral to the housing for mounting to a junction box. The extension has an opening to the interior of the housing with primary wires passing from the interior of the housing through the extension. The first extension is positioned so that the power supply is capable of being mounted to the mounting surface of a junction box when the power supply is at different orientations.

Modular power supply

An elongated flexible lighting system according to the present invention includes an array of light sources that are illuminated by electric power. It further includes an elongated translucent extrusion of flexible material. A high-power LED lamp comprises a cylindrical housing having a cavity and an open end with the housing made of a heat conductive material. One or more high power LEDs are mounted within the cavity such that at least some of the light from the LEDs is directed out the open end of the housing. An encapsulating material fills the cavity and surrounds the LEDs with the encapsulating material providing a waterproof covering over the LEDs and at least partially transmitting light from the LEDs out the opening. Heat from the LEDs conducts away from the LEDs and through the encapsulating material and the housing to dissipate in the ambient around the lamp.
