An engine includes two or more serially connected air compressors coupled via a crankshaft to an expander piston and cylinder combination. An intercooler device is placed between the air compressors. Compressed air from the compressors flows through a heat exchanger where it is heated by the expander exhaust gas prior to its introduction into the expander cylinder by way of an inlet valve. Fuel is mixed with the compressed air near the inlet valve in an amount suitable to allow for combustion. An auxiliary compressor allows for the selective introduction of additional compressed air into the heat exchanger

A system for automatically collecting and separating whole blood into its components is described. The system includes a console, which contains all motors, pumps, sensors, valves and control circuitry, and a unique disposable set that includes a cassette supporting a centrifuge with an improved design, pump interfaces with an improved design, component and solution bags, and tubing. Various processes are implemented using a specific disposable set for each process which allows automatic identification of the process to be performed the console.

Method of simultaneous blood collection and separation using a continuous flow centrifuge having a separation channel

A system for automatically processing blood components is described. The system includes a console, which contains all motors, pumps, sensors, valves and control circuitry, and a unique disposable set that includes a cassette supporting a centrifuge with an improved design, pump interfaces with an improved design, component and solution bags, and tubing. Various processes are implemented using a specific disposable set for each process which allows automatic identification of the process to be performed the console.

Integrated automatic blood processing unit

A blood processing system (), includes a housing (), to which a user control panel is mounted, having an access opening () therein. A cassette assembly (), mounted to the housing for movement between a use position covering the access opening and a cassette-replacement position, includes a cassette holder and cassette () removably mounted to the holder. The cassette includes in part by tubing aligned with a through-hole () in the cassette. A door () is mounted to the housing for movement between a latched position, capturing the cassette between the panel and the door, and a released position. Independently-driven roller assemblies () pass part-way through the access opening to capture first tubing portions (A,A,A) between the roller tracks () and the roller assemblies for peristaltic pumping of fluid. A number of movable pinch elements () are extendable through the front panel to selectively pinch the tubing against the door and thus seal the tubing.

An automatic system and method for the separation of blood into component parts includes a conically shaped collection and separation bag, component bags connected to the collection and separation bag, a sensor, valves to seal the connections between the component bags and the collection and separation bag, a centrifuge and a controller for controlling the process. Blood is placed in the collection and separation bag and is separated by centrifuging. The components are removed from the collection and separation bag either directly or indirectly by the centrifugal force into the component bags. Flow of the components is directed by automatic opening and closing of the valves in response to the position of the interface between the separated components determined by the sensor or elapsed time.
