A leveling mechanism is provided for a campstove which includes a base and a plurality of legs which are pivotally attached to the base. The leveling mechanism is a ring-shaped band which is inserted between the legs and the base. A camming ramp extends over a portion of the circumference of the band and progressively increases the thickness of the band. The band is rotatable to position the camming ramp between one of the pivoting legs and the base for pivoting the leg away from the base.

A fuel control assembly includes a valve closure member, a fuel inlet restricting member, and a fuel outlet cleaning member which are connected together for simultaneous movement. The valve closure member is movable within a valve body by a crank pin on a rotatable valve control shaft, and the valve closure member is movable in both directions beyond a sealing position in which the valve closure member cooperates with the valve body to shut off fuel flow through the valve body. Movement of the valve closure member in one direction beyond the sealing position maintains the fuel flow path closed and moves the fuel outlet cleaning member into the fuel outlet orifice to clean the orifice. Movement of the valve closure member in the other direction beyond the sealing position maintains the fuel flow path open and first moves the fuel inlet restricting member into the fuel inlet to restrict fuel flow through the inlet and thereafter moves the fuel inlet restricting member out of the fuel inlet to permit fuel to flow through the inlet unrestricted.

Fuel control assembly for burners

The portable single burner campstove of this invention is characterized by compactness to conform to the space limitations of backpacking. The cooking unit assembly which can be mounted on top of a tank includes a reflector bowl, a burner within the reflector bowl and a grate. In addition, there is provided a burner box attached to the reflector bowl in communication with the burner. The burner box includes internal venturi means for carrying fuel from the tank into the burner box. In particular, there is provided a tube extending inwardly from the side of the burner box. The tube serves to entrain air with the fuel as the fuel is fed into the burner box. In addition, the burner box serves as a mixing chamber and distribution plenum for feeding a steady flow or an air/fuel mixture to the burner. The portable single burner campstove of the invention is characterized by high efficiency with minimum external dimensions.

The portable single burner campstove of this invention is characterized by wind resistance and high efficiency. The cooking unit, which can be mounted on top of a support stand, includes a reflector bowl, a burner within the reflector bowl, and grate means for supporting a cooking utensil over the burner. In addition, there is provided a burner bowl within the reflector bowl and surrounding the burner. The utensil supporting grate is formed from a plurality of vertically-oriented strips of sheet metal, the lower portions of which extend downwardly into the burner bowl and the reflector bowl for cooperating therewith to increase the heat transferred to the cooking utensil and to reduce the adverse effect of crosswinds on such transfer. Preferably, where the burner is gas-fired, it is mounted on an adjustable support stand, so that different size gas bottles may be used with the stove, legs of adjustable inclination forming one side of the support and a bottle of fuel gas the other side.
