A double gripper for gripping and handling cable ends of two cables of a twisted cable harness in a fitting station for provisioning plug housings includes two gripper jaws each with an upper member arranged above a lower jaw member. The double gripper further includes two engagement members arranged between the upper and lower jaw members with which the cables are supported. The engagement members can be moved independently from the gripper jaws. A distance between the cables can be varied by moving the engagement members between the cables transverse to longitudinal axes of the cables. Each of the engagement members is formed as a wedge with at least one effective wedge surface.

A method for connecting a first cable to a second cable with an adhesive tape to form a cable chain includes: arranging a free end region of the first cable parallel to and spaced from a first end region of the second cable; providing the adhesive tape folded in its longitudinal direction to form opening tabs at its first and opposite second ends with an adhesively coated side of the adhesive tape partially adhering to itself; and enclosing a part of the first cable free end region and a part of the second cable first end region with the adhesive tape such that the first cable free end region has a greater distance from the first adhesive tape end and the second adhesive tape end than the second cable first end region and is detachably connected to the second cable first end region.

The present invention relates to a device () for assembling at least one plug housing () with prepared cable ends () of a cable harness (), in particular a twisted harness comprised of at least two cables (), wherein the device () has at least two cable grips () each for gripping one of the at least two cables () on a segment () of a free cable end (), in particular untwisted. For selective assembly, in particular for insertion of the cable ends () with a longitudinal offset into the plug housing () through a segment along the path of travel, which is potentially critical for a successful assembly process, the at least two cable grips () are displaceable independently of one another in the longitudinal direction (L) of the cable ends () to be gripped.
