This disclosure relates to a fluid friction clutch having a housing, a clutch disc which is arranged at one end of a shaft which is mounted within the housing, a working chamber which is configured between the housing and the clutch disc, a storage chamber for clutch fluid, and at least one feed duct which leads from the storage chamber to the working chamber. Moreover, a pressure relief device for discharging clutch fluid from the feed duct into the storage chamber is provided.

Fluid friction clutch

The invention relates to an auxiliary drive device () comprising an electric motor (); and a mechanical clutch, wherein the electric motor () and the mechanical clutch have the same axis of rotation (R), the mechanical clutch is designed as a fluid-friction clutch (), and the electric motor () and the fluid-friction clutch () are mechanically connected to one another.

Auxiliary drive device

Thermal management systems for vehicle engines which include hybrid fan drives with viscous clutches and electronic motors, particularly brushless DC motors (BLDC). One embodiment incorporates a pulley driven, electronically controlled viscous clutch mechanism and an internal rotor BLDC motor. Another embodiment includes an engine crank mounted electronically controlled viscous clutch mechanism with a tethered electric motor, particularly a BLDC motor. A further embodiment is an engine block mounted electronically controlled viscous clutch mechanism with an integrated external rotor BLDC motor.

Liquid friction clutch

The invention relates to a fluid friction clutch () having a housing (), having a clutch disk () which is rotatable relative to the housing (), and which is rotatably arranged on an end () of a shaft () which is mounted centrally within the housing (); having a working chamber () between the housing () and the clutch disk (); having a storage chamber () for clutch fluid; having a supply duct () which leads from the storage chamber () to the working chamber (); having a stationary clutch part () relative to which the housing () is rotatable; and having a pump element (), wherein the pump element () defines a shear gap () with an annular wall () arranged in the storage chamber (), wherein an active element () is fastened to the housing (), and wherein the shear rate in the shear gap () can be regulated by means of an electric motor () which is mounted on the shaft ().

Hybrid drive

The invention relates to a fluid friction clutch () having a housing () and a clutch disk (), which is rotatable relative to the housing (), and which is rotatably arranged at one end () of a shaft () centrally supported inside the housing (), having a working chamber () between the housing () and the clutch disk (), having a storage chamber () for clutch fluid; and having a feed duct (), which leads from the storage chamber () to the working chamber (), characterized by a supply pump element (), which is rotatable relative to the housing () and which is arranged, rotationally fixed, on the shaft (), and which defines a shear gap () with the housing (); and by a valve (), which is arranged in the feed duct (), characterized in that an operative element () is arranged on the housing ().

A fluid friction clutch with improved fluid pumping system. A scraping member is provided adjacent the clutch plate and has a duct which communicates with the reservoir chamber.

Regulating the rotational speed of the driven rotor of a viscosity coupling to a predetermined speed with a control circuit having a switching mechanism. When the speed drops below certain values, the speed is adjusted back to the predetermined value.

Device for regulating rotational speed of the driven rotor of a viscosity coupling

A control system for a fan of a cooling system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle having a viscous coupling (fan clutch) driving the fan and a control unit (PID governor) to which the setpoint temperature and the measured actual temperature of the cooling system (coolant temperature) are fed. The control unit (PID governor) is connected downstream to a limiter, which holds the ratio of output speed to input speed below a specifiable limit (x % of input speed). An overheat protection logic disables the limiter when the actual coolant temperature exceeds a specifiable critical temperature that is higher than the setpoint temperature of the control unit (PID governor).

Engine cooling fan control system

A fluid friction clutch, in particular for the fan of the radiator of an internal combustion engine, is described. A valve element ( ) controlling the clutch is operated via a solenoid control by means of a piston rod ( ) which is guided coaxially in the drive shaft ( ) of the clutch.
