A method for detecting angle measuring errors in an angular-resolution radar sensor for motor vehicles. For stationary radar targets, in each instance, the radial velocity and at least one locating angle are measured, and with the aid of the measured locating angle, an expected value of the radial velocity is calculated and compared to the measured value. Measurements of the radial velocities and the locating angles for one or more stationary targets are taken. For each of these targets, an individual indicator value is calculated, which indicates the difference of the measured radial velocity from the expected radial velocity. The individual indicator values obtained are subjected to angle-dependent scaling to compensate for the angular dependence of distortive angle errors. An indicator of the angle measuring error is calculated from the scaled, individual indicator values.

Method for operating a sensor of a motor vehicle

A method is described for ascertaining an acceleration of a target or an object with the aid of radar waves. In a first step, at least one radar transmit signal is sent by at least one transmitting device. At least one radar reception signal reflected from a target is received and subsequently conveyed to an evaluation unit. The evaluation unit converts the radar reception signals into digital measuring values and is used for further processing of the digital measuring values. In a further step, the digital measuring values are subjected to a two-dimensional Fourier transform. At least one target reflection is detected on the basis of peak values or selected from a resulting absolute value spectrum or distance-velocity spectrum. At least one distance of a target from the transmitting device and at least one radial velocity of a target in relation to the transmitting device are ascertained based on the distance-velocity spectrum. Subsequently, at least one angle of the at least one target is determined in relation to an alignment of the transmitting device. Based on the determination or computation of the distance, the transverse velocity, and the angle, the particular signal components relevant for the estimation are separated. For at least one target reflection of an actual target or object, after carrying out an inverse Fourier transform, at least one radial acceleration is approximately computed from the remaining again transformed measured values. A method for ascertaining a transverse-velocity-component (TVC) of a radar-target (RT), including: periodically sending modulated, transmitted signals with a transmitting device (TD) having transmission-elements, into a sensing-region of the radar-device (RD), during a measuring-period; receiving a radar-signal (RS) reflected by the RT, using a receiving-device having receiving-elements; transmitting the received (RS) to an evaluation-device and converting it; performing a two-dimensional Fourier-transformation (FT) to generate a velocity-distance spectrum (VDS) of the digital-measured values for each transmission/receiving element; detecting a target reflection of the RT in light of, peak values in a magnitude-spectrum of the VDS; ascertaining a distance of the RT from the RD, and a radial-velocity-component relative to the RD, from the VDS; determining an angle of the RT relative to the antenna; selecting the RT; performing an inverse FT of the target reflection of the RT, and ascertaining the transverse-velocity-component of the RT from the transformed-measured values.
