In providing radiation therapy (RT) support, a patient specific toxicity risk is estimated for a RT side effect using a Bayesian network that receives as inputs values of biomarkers of the patient. A patient-specific RT plan is optimized with respect to parameters including the patient-specific toxicity risk. During delivery of RT according to the plan, at least one updated value is received for the biomarkers of the patient, and an updated patient-specific toxicity risk is estimated using the Bayesian network with the updated value(s). The Bayesian network biomarker nodes and a toxicity risk node representing the patient specific toxicity risk, and directed arcs with arc weights representing strengths of interdependencies between the nodes connected by the directed arcs. A graphical user interface (GUI) is provided via which a clinician may interact with the Bayesian network. A test recommendation may be initiated or updated for scheduling of a patient test based on the updated patient-specific toxicity risk.

Systems and methods to support personalization of cancer treatment for patients undergoing radiation therapy

A system and method for patient positioning during radiotherapy. The system can include a patient support structure configured to receive a patient during a radiotherapy process using a radiotherapy source to deliver a therapy to the patient when positioned on the patient support structure, a patient positioning system configured to adjust a position of the patient support structure relative to the radiotherapy source, a flexible actuator configured to secure the patient to the patient support and adjust a position of the patient relative to the patient support, and an imaging system configured to acquire imaging data of the patient, the patient support, and the flexible actuator during the radiotherapy process.

Systems and methods for patient positioning during radiotherapy

A gantry-less particle therapy system is provided. Charged particles are extracted from an ion source and accelerated in a beam transport system having an annular portion extending in a first plane and that circumscribes a volume, an arcuate portion extending in a second plane, and a transition portion that connects the annular portion and the arcuate portion. The arcuate portion terminates at a beam nozzle extending radially inward from the annular portion to deliver an ion beam to a treatment area contained in the volume circumscribed by the annular portion.

System and method for gantry-less particle therapy

A method includes determining a set of candidate beam directions. The radiation therapy method further includes selecting a sub-set of non-coplanar beam directions of interest from the set of candidate beam directions based on a fluence optimization using a beam angle selection algorithm. The radiation therapy method further includes determining a set of delivery options based on a beam trajectory algorithm, wherein the delivery options at least include a non-coplanar trajectory during radiation treatment delivery. The radiation therapy method further includes optimizing the delivery options to generate a VMAT radiation plan with non-coplanar beam trajectories. The optimizing of the delivery options includes optimizing at least one machine parameter.

Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) with non-coplanar trajectories

A system and method for determining a desired portion of a subject to receive a radiation dose includes iteratively choosing weight vectors to run to gradually build up a Pareto surface (PS). BY examining the current points that have been found on the PS along with the weights used to produce those points, a new vector is produced and run. This process is repeated until a geometric stop tolerance is met.

System and method for radiation dose control

An arrangement and method for treating the subject are provided, using which it is determined whether an equivalent uniform dose (&ldquo;EUD&rdquo;) associated with a particular dose distribution is greater than a first dose tolerance associated with a first structure within a subject. Also, a determination is made as to whether the EUD associated with the particular dose distribution is greater than a second dose tolerance associated with a second structure within the subject.
