Aspects describe herein facilitate specification of a desired data format for bar code data to be presented by an indicia reading apparatus. Bar code data decoded from an image of a bar code is obtained and displayed. A user input field is provided and, based on input by the user to the user input field, the user input field is populated with a representation of the desired data format for the bar code data. Based on the representation of the desired data format populated in the user input field, configuration settings are determined for configuring the indicia reading apparatus to present bar code data in the desired data format.

Aspects describe herein facilitate specification of a desired data format for bar code data to be presented by an indicia reading apparatus. Bar code data decoded from an image of a bar code is obtained and displayed. A user input field is provided and based on input by the user to the user input field, the user input field is populated with a representation of the desired data format for the bar code data. Based on the representation of the desired data format populated in the user input field, configuration settings are determined for configuring the indicia reading apparatus to present bar code data in the desired data format.

An encoded information reading (EIR) terminal can comprise a microprocessor, a memory, a communication interface, and an EIR device, all communicatively coupled to a system bus. The EIR device can be provided by a bar code reading device, an RFID reading device, and/or a card reading device. The EIR terminal can be configured, responsive to reading an encoded message by the EIR device, to produce a decoded message string by decoding the encoded message. The EIR terminal can be further configured to produce an output string by formatting the decoded message string according to one or more formatting commands. The formatting can comprise excluding from the output string a symbol of a specified encoding type according to a Discard Data formatting command.

An exemplary method of operating a hand held optical indicia reader includes: capturing in a setup mode a plurality of images of setup symbologies; displaying symbology representations of the symbologies on a graphic user interface (GUI); sorting at least two of the symbology images into a sequencing order utilizing the GUI; storing the sequencing order; capturing in a use mode an image of a target having at least one use symbologies provided thereon, the at least one use symbologies correlating with at least one of the setup symbologies; decoding at least two of the use symbologies; and, outputting the decoded use symbologies in the sequencing order.

There is provided for herein a terminal having a radio transceiver, the radio transceiver having a maximum output power and an operating power. The operating power is limitable to a power limit that less than or equal to the maximum output power and is operator selectable from a set of power limit values so as to reduce interference with other devices operating in the 2.4 GHz spectrum of the ISM band. In one embodiment, the set of power limit values includes the maximum output power and a plurality of additional values. In another embodiment, the set of power limit values includes a plurality of values, the plurality of values including at least first and second values less than 16 dB apart in magnitude.
