The invention is related to a trapped ion mobility spectrometer (TIMS device) and proposes to use higher order (order N&#x3e;2) linear multipole RF systems to accumulate and analyze ions at an electric DC field barrier, either pure higher order RF multipole systems or multipole RF systems with transitions from higher order towards lower order, e.g. from a linear octopolar RF system (N=4) to a linear quadrupole RF system (N=2) in front of the apex of the electric DC field barrier.

Trapped ion mobility spectrometer with high ion storage capacity

The invention proposes a mass spectrometer comprising two ion mobility analyzers in tandem arrangement, of which at least one is a trapped ion mobility spectrometer (TIMS), and an ion gate which is located between the two ion mobility analyzers, and use thereof wherein ions are selectively transferred between the two ion mobility analyzers by adjusting the transmission of the ion gate while ions are separated in time according to ion mobility in the first ion mobility analyzer.

In a method for operating a diesel engine having a cylinder, a piston which is guided in a longitudinally displaceable manner oscillating between an upper dead center position and a lower dead center position in the cylinder, and an injector having an injector valve for the injection of a fuel quantity into the cylinder, in a compression cycle delimited by the movement of the piston from the lower dead center position to the upper dead center position, combustion air is compressed. In a working cycle delimited by the movement of the piston from the upper dead center position to the lower dead center position, the injection of the fuel quantity occurs. In all operating states the injection begins after the upper dead center position, the injector valve being abruptly opened.
