A hearing aid includes a forward path for processing sound from the user's environment. The forward path includes a) a first microphone providing a first electric input signal representing sound as received at the first microphone, the first microphone being located away from an ear canal of the user, b) an audio signal processor for processing the first electric input signal, or a signal or signals originating therefrom, and for providing a processed signal, c) an output transducer for providing stimuli perceivable as sound to the user in dependence of the processed signal, and d) a second microphone configured to provide a second electric input signal representing sound received at the second microphone, the second microphone being located at or in the user's ear canal, and e) a feature extractor for extracting acoustic characteristics of the user's ear from the second electric input signal, or a signal originating therefrom.

Hearing device comprising an input transducer in the ear

A hearing aid configured to be worn at, and/or in, an ear of a user, comprises a forward path for processing sound from the environment of the user. The forward path comprises a) at least one first microphone providing at least one first electric input signal representing said sound as received at the respective at least one first microphones, said at least one first microphone being located away from a first ear canal of the user, b) an audio signal processor for processing said at least one first electric input signal, or a signal or signals originating therefrom, and for providing a processed signal, c) an output transducer for providing stimuli perceivable as sound to the user in dependence of said processed signal, and d) at least one second microphone connected to said audio signal processor, the at least one second microphone being configured to provide at least one second electric input signal representing said sound as received at the at least one second microphone, the at least one second microphone being located at or in said first ear canal of the user, and e) a feature extractor for extracting acoustic characteristics of said ear of the user from said at least one second electric input signal, or a signal originating therefrom. The hearing aid is configured to include said acoustic characteristics in the processed signal. The invention may e.g. provide improved sound localization in hearing aids.

A method of configuring a frequency transposition scheme for transposing a set of received frequencies of an audio signal received by a hearing aid worn by a subject to a transposed set of frequencies, wherein the method comprises determining at least one subject-dependent parameter indicative of the subject's ability to detect audio frequencies, and at least one subject-dependent parameter indicative of the location in frequency of one or more spectral cues, configuring a subject-dependent frequency transposition scheme based on the determined subject-dependent parameters, the subject-dependent frequency transposition scheme being configured so as to improve the subject's spatial hearing capabilities, and adapting the hearing aid to perform the configured subject-dependent frequency transposition scheme.

Frequency transposition applications for improving spatial hearing abilities of subjects with high-frequency hearing losses

A digital filter includes at least a first and a second delayed summation line. One of the delay lines includes a warped finite impulse response (FIR) filter and the other line is a FIR filter. Midpoint elements from the first delayed summation line are used as input to the second delayed summation line. Output from the first delayed summation line is delayed with a delay corresponding to the total delay of the second delayed summation line and the delayed output from the first delayed summation line is added to output from the second delayed summation line to faun a new output.

In the method according to the invention the communication device has a microphone and a signal path leading from the microphone to a speaker, where the signal path comprises a programmable signal processing unit. According to the method the user is given control in a training session over one or more signal processing parameters within the signal processing unit. In the training session the user listens to the sound of his or her own voice transmitted through the communication device, and adjusts the one or more signal processing parameters until he or she is satisfied with the sound quality of his/her own voice. The values of the signal processing parameters chosen by the user during the training session are stored in a storing means within the device, and the programmable signal processing automatically uses the stored parameter when detection means within the unit detects the users own voice.
