A muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a muffler housing having a peripheral wall elongated along a longitudinal axis of the muffler housing. The peripheral wall has first and second end walls. A muffler insert is surrounded by the peripheral wall and is supported thereon. The muffler insert has a retaining wall extending in a direction of the longitudinal axis. The peripheral wall has a peripheral wall opening and a first exhaust-gas routing pipe has a first end region and is positioned with the first end region thereof engaging in the peripheral wall opening. The first exhaust-gas routing pipe has a second end region and is secured by the second end region thereof to the retaining wall. The first exhaust-gas routing pipe is of multi-part configuration and has a first pipe part and a second pipe part.

Muffler and method for making a muffler

A muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a muffler housing with a peripheral wall which extends longitudinally in the direction of a housing longitudinal axis. At least one base wall is surrounded by the peripheral wall or/and retained on the peripheral wall and delimits a chamber in the muffler housing. At least one base wall opening is surrounded by an opening edge region which is bent at an essentially plane base wall region of the base wall essentially in the direction of the housing longitudinal axis. The at least one base wall opening receives an exhaust pipe with a press fit in at least one base wall.

The present invention relates to an air-gap-insulated exhaust manifold () of an internal combustion engine, in particular in a motor vehicle, having a collecting line () that extends in a longitudinal direction (), an outlet opening () oriented in the longitudinal direction (), multiple inlet openings () oriented across the longitudinal direction () and a flange () that extends in the longitudinal direction () and includes the inlet openings (), wherein an inside pipe () is situated in an outside pipe (), forming an air-gap insulation, and whereby a gas-carrying outside pipe section () is provided in the area of at least one of the inlet openings () and leads from the respective inlet opening () to an assigned inside pipe inlet () which is at a distance from the flange (). The inside pipe () is attached to the outside pipe () only in an attachment area ().
