A method for cleaning a printing fluid off a surface of at least one rotatable component of a printing press includes selecting and executing one of a plurality of predefined cleaning operations in an automated way. The selection is made on the basis of a predefined mathematical model executed on a computer and, when the model is executed, a parameter corresponding to an amount of the printing fluid present on the surface is calculated. The improved cleaning method may be applied in all modes of operation of the printing press and in particular allows detergent, cleaning cloth, and/or water to be saved.

A method for operating an offset printing press having at least one printing unit with an inking unit, a plate cylinder for receiving a printing plate, a blanket cylinder, an impression cylinder and a dampening unit, and for controlling an application of dampening solution from the dampening unit onto the plate cylinder, includes predampening the printing plate. After a printing pressure has been switched on between the blanket cylinder and the impression cylinder and after a printing material transport through the offset printing press has been switched on, a supply of dampening solution to the plate cylinder in the printing unit is reduced to a pronounced extent at least once for a short predefined time period, as a result of which an excess of dampening solution produced by the predampening does not accumulate permanently in the inking unit. A method for feeding sheets to a printing technology machine improves reliability of feeding sheets and reduces an acceleration time from a base speed to a production speed. The sheets are conveyed onto a feed table in shingled formation by a first drive and are individually and successively conveyed from the feed table to a first processing station of the machine by a second drive. The sheets are conveyed onto the feed table before an acceleration of the second drive to production speed is completed and the first drive is accelerated to the production speed when the processing station has reached the production speed.

During the printing interruption, the damping unit roller is supplied discontinuously with damping solution replenishment and, as a result, the damping unit roller is kept ready for a printing operation.
