A method for automatically checking in passengers and their luggage by an electronic input of the passenger data or travel data by the passenger himself into an automatic check-in terminal is provided. In the automatic check-in terminal, possibly following selection of various criteria, the boarding pass and one or more information media for attachment to the luggage are created and output. The information medium created is a luggage tag which is easy to affix to the luggage item and which contains, in machine-readable form, at least all the data and information which are required for a later generation of an internationally standardized, preferably self-adhesive luggage band which is affixed to the luggage item within a conveying and sorting system in addition to the luggage tag.

Method for automatically checking in passengers and their luggage

In a method for sorting mail items which are unaddressed and held in a number of batches each batch is obtained and registered by recording at least one graphical feature of a mail item which uniquely describes the batch (i.e. clearly identifies the batch from other batches). The graphical reference feature is linked to a batch of unaddressed mail and an associated sorting plan. In a subsequent sorting of all batches, each batch is recorded once again and its reference feature is detected and it is distributed according to the sorting plan, if necessary to an end delivery point.

The invention relates to a method for reading document entries and addresses. In this context, automatic reading is effected using the intermediate steps of layout analysis, classification of the segmented regions and interpretation of the results in a reader, and if necessary video coding. A system for automated treatment of fluids having interchangeable process modules (), which are arranged next to each other, and which are respectively provided with a control unit and a fluid unit. The fluid unit is controlled by the control unit in order to carry out a module-specific process function during the treatment of the fluids. The invention relates to sorting items of mail in a plurality of sorting passes. In order not to have to read the address in each sorting pass and also not to have to print any machine-readable identification code on each item of mail, features characteristic of the items of mail are additionally determined during the first sorting pass and are stored together with distribution codes determined in the reading process. During the subsequent sorting passes only the characteristic features of the items of mail are measured and compared with the stored features. In the event of agreement, the item of mail is assigned the associated distribution code. A particular feed regime with defined orders ensures that in each case only n items of mail have to be compared, where n=maximum multiple delivery rate to be expected.
