In an arrangement for protecting a cooling system of an internal combustion engine from excessive pressure which cooling system includes a coolant container with a filler mouthpiece with a pressure operated valve mounted on an insert received in the mouthpiece so as to normally close the filler mouthpiece, the mouthpiece has a ventilation opening providing for communication between a gas volume in the coolant container and the filler mouthpiece and including a flow control element which is automatically closed when the coolant container is being filled to permit filling of the container only to the lower end of the mouthpiece extending into the coolant container but is opened by the insert introduced into the filler mouthpiece when the filler mouthpiece is closed. The insert also includes a valve arrangement for controlling the coolant system pressure and various conditions.

Arrangement for protecting a cooling system from excessive pressure

In a mounting arrangement for supporting a radiator in a motor vehicle the radiator is pivotally supported by a first pair of pins extending from its narrow side while a second pair of pins which is spaced from the first pair of pins is engaged by flexible holding members locating the radiator in a predetermined installation position but permitting the radiator to yield when subjected to impact forces thereby to void damage to the radiator.

Mounting arrangement for a radiator

A cooling water expansion tank having a level-fixing device which prevents cooling water from running out when the filling pipe is opened after driving operation and when filling the expansion tank. The level-fixing device has a positive pressure valve which is located in the vent conduit and is closed during filling. The filling pipe is provided with an overflow edge which is at least at the same height as the cooling water level at maximum expansion height.

Cooling water expansion tank

A venting arrangement for a cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine, having a vent line which connects a radiator to a top section of an expansion tank located at a higher level with regard to the top of the radiator. In order to avoid trapping of air inside the vent line, a vent valve in the form of a flap or diaphragm valve is installed at the highest point of the vent line, via which vent valve the trapped air can escape during travelling operation and during filling. By the arrangement of the vent valve inside the expansion tank, the cooling water expanding during running of the engine and discharging via the vent valve remains in the expansion tank.

Vent line in the cooling circuit of an internal combustion engine

A delivery-valve unit is provided on a compensating tank in the cooling circuit of an internal-combustion engine. Individual relief valves inside a receiving housing arranged horizontally in a cover of the compensating tank are additionally surrounded by valve housings which are snapped together. The sealing surfaces of the relief valves are uncoupled from the walls of the compensating tank. In the event of dimensional changes in the compensating tank, this arrangement prevents both deformations of the sealing surfaces occurring as a result of a water-level-induced pressure rise and leaks at the relief valves.

The invention relates to a radiator mounting for motor vehicles, in which the radiator rests against a respective corresponding support fixed to a vehicle by at least one bearing support fixed to the radiator. The radiator is supported elastically and adjustably via at least one further bearing fixed to the vehicle. The bearing fixed to the radiator consists of a hollow mounting pin which can be inserted into an opening of the bearing fixed to the vehicle and receives a mounting element which bears a compensating plate held such that its position can be varied relative to said element.

Radiator mounting for motor vehicles

A mounting for a cooler of a motor vehicle which has two journals arrangd at a distance from one another on each of its opposite narrow sides and adapted to be held in corresponding bearing bores of supporting brackets fixed to the vehicle. Each bearing bore is provided with a receiving slot for the journal; with the receiving slots for one pair of journals being offset at an angle of about 90.degree. relative to the receiving slots for the other pair.

In a device for monitoring the liquid level in a tank, utilizing a reed switch projecting into the tank in an internally cylindrical hollow rod and a float provided with a permanent magnet and guided on the hollow rod, the reed switch is constructed as an independent exchangeable part introducible into the hollow rod with an accurate fit and with a small assembly outlay. The slide-in part has three radially resilient abutment zones distributed uniformly around the circumference. In order to accurately introduce the slide-in part into the hollow rod, with a minimum of force, three axial guide grooves associated with the resilient abutment zones are formed radially outwards in the inner envelope surface of the hollow rod. In order to achieve the final accurate fit, the slide-in part, introduced completely into the hollow rod, is rotated until the resilient abutment zones are located in regions between the guide grooves of the hollow rod.

The cooling air circulation system at the front end of a motor vehicle has several separate air ducts which are arranged one on top of the other and in which a water cooler and a supplementary cooler are position. Improved cooling is achieved by the cooling air of an upper and central air duct being conveyed to the water cooler, in front of which are mounted in the upper air duct only a condenser of an air-conditioning system and an electric fan, and by a lower air duct, in which the supplementary cooler is arranged, leading into an opening in front of the water cooler on the underside of the front end.

This invention relates to a cooler shroud detachably mounted to a heat exchanger of a liquid-cooled internal-combustion engine which includes a fan ring surrounding a fan driven by the internal-combustion engine. In order to be able to remove a cooler shroud that is arranged in narrow space conditions easily and without dismantling other components, the fan ring is detachably fastened to the cooler shroud.
