A user interface device includes a barrel, with a retractable active stylus positioned within the barrel. A cap portion connects to the barrel at a rotatable interface. A power source is positioned within the cap portion. A rotation-position switch connects the power source to activate the stylus when the cap portion is rotated to an 'on' position.

Retractable active stylus with dual writing function

A mechanical pencil has a front sleeve, a cap rotatably and detachably mounted at the rear end of the front sleeve, and a lead advancing mechanism contained in the front sleeve. Rotation of the cap actuates the lead advancing mechanism to advance a lead. The mechanical pencil prevents breakage of lead and has low manufacturing costs. A rotation cam mechanism is disposed behind the lead advancing mechanism for advancing lead. The rotation cam mechanism has a rotation cam for rotating in accordance with rotation of a cap and a cam sleeve biased to engaged the rotation cam. An inside diameter of the front end of the cam sleeve is larger than an outside diameter of the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism so that the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism is inserted into the front end of the cam sleeve with a clearance in the radial direction. An inside diameter of the rear end of the lead advancing mechanism is larger than the outside diameter of a lead to establish a clearance there also. Due to these clearances, if the pencil is dropped, lead is not broken due to distortion of the lead advancing mechanism.

Mechanical pencil

An electric motor protector sensor contains a small thermistor of low thermal inertia contained in a high temperature dielectric covering member in which electrical insulated lead wires are connected to opposite sides of the thermistor and extend out of the cover member to a current source to supply electrical current to the thermistor. An electrically insulating, thermally conductive silicone elastomer is positioned around the thermistor and lead wires to absorb forces on the sensor thereby protecting electrical contact between the lead wires and damage to the thermistor. Additionally, the lead wires can be twisted as extending out of the cover member and covered with another sleeve covering to provide improved protection against lead wire separation from thermistor surface electrical contact.
