An ejector pin assembly for a split mold in which the ejector pin is held in a retracted position in a movable mold half, pushed into the mold cavity by a knock out pin contacted by the ejector pin during opening of the mold and held in contact with the knock out pin until it is pulled into the retracted position by the knock out pin upon opening of the mold.

Method and apparatus for ejecting molded articles

A mold,for curing a precured tread,to a tire casing,is disclosed. The mold,has a first annular portion,, a second annular portion,, a pair of annular portions,, and an inflatable bladder,for insertion into the casing,when enclosed in the cavity,of the closed mold,. The first annular portion,has a sidewall supporting member,, the sidewall supporting member,having a bead forming end,, and a tread supporting member,integrally attached and generally normal to the sidewall support member,. The tread supporting member,has a smooth axially contoured annular surface for contacting the radially outer surface of the precured tread,and a first end,in proximity to the tread lateral end,of the second annular portion,. The second annular portion,has a sidewall supporting member,and tread lateral end supporting member,the second portion,having a first end,and a second end,. The first end,is adjacent to the tread supporting member,of the portion,. The first end,is aligned with the first end,of the first annular portion,when the mold,is closed thus forming a cavity,for the precured tread,and casing,. The preferred mold,has the first end,of the tread supporting member,located at or near the lateral end,located adjacent relative to the tread support member

Mold for curing precured treads to tire casings

An improved tire,having precured tire tread,for mounting to an unvulcanized or a vulcanized tire casing,is disclosed. The improved precured tread,has a pair of circumferentially continuous projections,. One projection,extends axially outwardly from each of the lateral surfaces,of the tread. The rejection,provides a means for air tightly sealing the tread casing assembly at the lateral surfaces,during the vulcanization of the tread,to the casing,. The method of assembly includes placing the tread,and casing,in a smooth mold, closing the mold inflating a bladder expanding the casing,into the tread,, the tread,correspondingly expands effecting an air tight sealing of the tread,and the mold at the annular projections,of the tread,, applying heat and pressure causing a uniform flow of unvulcanized material radially outwardly along the tread edges. This invention provides uniform pressure distribution on the tire casing during curing. In this way belt package distortion is greatly minimized or eliminated. In another embodiment, a precured inner liner eliminates the need for an inflatable bladder.

Precurred tire tread for a truck tire and the method of assembly

An improved tire 200 having precured tire tread 10 for mounting to an unvulcanized or a vulcanized tire casing 100 is disclosed. The improved precured tread 10 has a pair of circumferentially continuous projections 60. One projection 60 extends axially outwardly from each of the lateral surfaces 40,50 of the tread. The projection 60 provides a means for air tightly sealing the tread casing assembly at the lateral surfaces 40,50 during the vulcanization of the tread 10 to the casing 100. The method of assembly includes placing the tread 10 and casing 100 in a smooth mold, closing the mold inflating a bladder expanding the casing 100 into the tread 10, the tread 10 correspondingly expands effecting an air tight sealing of the tread 10 and the mold at the annular projections 60 of the tread 10, applying heat and pressure causing a uniform flow of unvulcanized material radially outwardly along the tread edges.

Molds for injection molding tire components have controlled temperature passages leading to a manifold surrounding each mold cavity. The manifold is positioned to minimize weld lines in the injected tire component. In addition, a narrow gate opening between the manifold and mold cavity provides an elevated temperature of the injected material for decreasing the curing time of the tire component in the mold. Blade members may support and position tire components such as bead apex assemblies in the mold. These tire components may be unloaded by an unloader ring in communication with a source of vacuum for pulling the tire component out of the mold.
