In an ocular support assembly material present in the forward-looking cross-section of the outwardly extending support arms is removed, thereby reducing visual obscuration and enhancing peripheral vision. In the preferred embodiment, the top of each outwardly extending support arm is at or below the middle of the height of the housing, thereby resulting in a low-profile design. At the same time, the support arms are received by the housing with sliding engagement on all sides, thereby eliminating the need for ball bearings or spacers to counteract twisting. The result is a lightweight yet highly stable ocular mounting assembly.

Use of this invention enables a commercially available flashlight to be mounted on or in the forward end of a firearm's magazine, thereby configuring a source of illumination in precise alignment with the bore of the gun. In contrast to prior-art devices, the inventive approach requires no modification to the gun in general or magazine in particular, and may consume the space taken by a single shell, allowing the remainder of the magazine to hold shells, as is typical. The preferred embodiment permits certain types of barreled flashlights, such as the Maglight&reg;, Smith & Wesson&reg; or Dorcy&reg; having a diameter on the order of {fraction (7/10)} inch to be mounted on or into the forward end of the magazine through the use of an adapter base module. To position the non-illuminating end of the flashlight in alignment relative to the spring present in the magazine, an optional spring guide in used.

Magazine-mounted, integral firearm lighting system

An optical accessory of the type used by medical professionals is coupled to a clip-on mount, enabling the assembly to be used with ordinary eyeglass frames. The assembly may be used with specialized frames, in which case the clip-on mount may be removed for a more permanent mounting of the assembly directly to the bridge area of the eyeglass frames. In different implementations, optical accessories in the form of ocular loupes, head lamps, and miniaturized video cameras may be accommodated according to the invention.

An adjusting device for use with a pair of telescopic oculars allows independent rotation of each ocular to correct vertical misalignment between the lines of sight of the oculars. The oculars are part of an optical mounting assembly that includes a housing in which two slide bars are mounted. The oculars are mounted on the slide bars through bosses and mounting screws. An adjusting set screw is threaded through a hole on each slide bar so that it can push against the boss. By tightening or loosening the set screw, the line of sight of each ocular can be adjusted vertically, so that vertical misalignment between the lines of sight is effectively controlled.

A formable nose pad distributes the weight of eyeglasses and accessories supported by the eyeglass frames over a large area of the wearer's nose. The nose pad has two inner tabs that can be formed to fit the wearer's nose, outer tabs that can be formed to fit the undersides of the eyeglass lenses and a flange through which the nose pad is attached to the eyeglass bridge. Slotted screw holes on the flange allow for height adjustment to fit the height of the wearer's nose.

An improved ocular mounting assembly having a pair of ocular support arms which can be extended by sliding out of a box-section assembly housing for supporting a pair of ocular devices attached to the ends of the support arms. The improvement is a pair of stabilizers disposed inside the assembly housing and providing stability against rotational motion when the arms are extended. In one embodiment, the stabilizers are interference-fitted balls, retained in position by retainer holes in the assembly housing, and receding into recess cut-outs at the end of the support arms when the arms are fully retracted. In an alternate embodiment, the stabilizers are L-shaped, and can be either an integral part of the housing or bonded to it with adhesive.
