A HID solid state retrofit lamp includes a circumferential array of solid state light sources mounted on circuit boards, a heat sink located in the lamp's interior volume, and a fan positioned in the interior volume to force airflow across the heat sink. A capper assembly includes at least one aperture to vent the interior volume, and an intermediate circuit board within the capper assembly. The intermediate circuit board distributes electrical power to the circuit boards by tabs and contacts extending from the boards that are mechanically bonded together. An optical transmissive shield is positioned exterior to the circumferential array, and can include prismatic structures to direct light emitted from the LED sources in an off axis direction.

Solid state lamp for retrofit

A lamp assembly includes a base, a hermetically sealed outer jacket mounted on the base, and a driver circuit disposed within the hermetically sealed outer jacket and electrically coupled to the base. The lamp assembly may also include a safety circuit configured to interrupt electrical power to the lamp assembly if the hermetically sealed outer jacket is compromised.

The specification and drawings present methodology for modularly expanding sensing capabilities of a luminaire or a luminaire mounted sensing system by adding replaceable exterior sensor module(s) in a desired position in a vicinity of an existing (legacy) luminaire or a luminaire system for both inside and outside applications. For outside applications, this modular expansion may be performed while maintaining weathertight sealing integrity, e.g., waterproofing of the luminaire-sensor system/apparatus including exterior housing, exterior electrical connections, cables and any other exposed components. The embodiments described herein can provide diverse sensor capability and future expansion needs for luminaire mounted sensing systems and for processing sensor signals.

A heat sink comprises a heat sink body, which in some embodiments is a plastic heat sink body, and a thermally conductive layer disposed over the heat sink body. In some embodiments the thermally conductive layer comprises a copper layer. A light emitting diode (LED)-based lamp comprises the aforementioned heat sink and an LED module including one or more LED devices in which the LED module is secured with and in thermal communication with the heat sink. Some such LED-based lamps may have an A-line bulb configuration or an MR or PAR configuration. Disclosed method embodiments comprise forming a heat sink body and disposing a thermally conductive layer on the heat sink body. The forming may comprise molding the heat sink body, which may be plastic. In some method embodiments the heat sink body includes fins and the disposing includes disposing the thermally conductive layer over the fins.

Lightweight heat sinks and LED lamps employing same

In an embodiment, the disclosure provides a light source comprising at least one solid state light emitter. The light source, in operation, emits substantially white light having a Lighting Preference Index (LPI) of at least about 105, and this emission from the light source comprises a UV-violet flux of at least about 1%. Use of the lamps, light sources, and methods of the present disclosure may afford the ability to display linens and clothing under energy-efficient LED-based illumination, and may impart an effect to (especially white) clothing, that makes them look cleaner than under illumination by prior art LED lamps.

According to some embodiments, a system and housing provide a lamp including a heat sink including: an annular tube including a first end and a second end, a plurality of fins extending radially from an exterior surface of the annular tube, wherein a length of each fin extends from the first end of the annular tube to the second end of the annular tube; a plurality of light sources in thermal contact with the heat sink; a driver circuit operative to provide the input voltage and current for the plurality of light sources; and a capper positioned at the second end of the annular tube, wherein the capper is operative to be received in a socket. A unitary heat sink that includes fins and roots configured to provide improved thermal management for solid state light sources. In an embodiment, the unitary heat sink includes a central hub portion composed of a thermally conducting metal, a plurality of fins projecting away from the central hub portion in a first direction, and a plurality of roots projecting away from the central hub portion in a second direction generally opposite from the first direction.

A luminaire is provided that is configured as a window having a light guide with one or more light sources coupled to one or more edges of the light guide. Light emitted from the light guide can be used e.g., to supplement natural light passing through the window or to provide illumination when natural light is not available. Because the light source (or light sources) is incorporated into the window along one or more edges of the light guide, the light source can be either partially or totally concealed from view so as to create an appearance that can have aesthetic advantages.
