A chipper for chipping wood material has first and second feed rollers at an inlet. The first and second feed rollers are secured to a frame of the chipper with the axes of the feed rollers being parallel and spaced apart. The first and second feed rollers are free to move in a direction generally transverse to the axes. The feed rollers are biased toward one another. A motor drives at least one of the feed rollers to rotate the feed roller about its axis of rotation.

Feed rollers for chipper

A drum chipper for chipping wood material includes a chipping drum having a blade mounted at an opening formed through a circumferential surface of the drum. The drum includes an internal conical surface positioned for a chip to flow radially inwardly from the blade towards the conical surface and outwardly through an axial face of the drum.

Wood chipper

A method and mechanism for controlling the material feed of a machine for chipping wood or brush. The machine has a pair of coacting feed rolls which feed material to be chipped into a rotating chipper that is driven by an engine of variable speed. Hydraulic motors for driving each of the feed rolls are actuated when the speed of the engine is at least a selected high level appropriate for efficient chipping. If the material is of a size or composition to load the engine below a selected low level adverse to efficient chipping, the hydraulic motors are interrupted to stop feeding of the material to allow the engine to return to an efficient chipping speed. When the engine has recovered to at least the selected high level, the hydraulic motors are reactivated to again feed material into the chipper.
