Techniques for epoch pipelining are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method for epoch pipelining comprising the steps of beginning a first epoch, determining for one or more pages of memory if the pages of memory are likely to be modified in a subsequent epoch, performing a first operation on the pages of memory that are likely to be modified in a subsequent epoch, beginning a second epoch, subsequent to the first epoch, performing a second operation on the pages of memory that are not likely to be modified in a subsequent epoch, and ending the first epoch, wherein the first operation and the second operation are dissimilar.

Techniques for epoch pipelining

A method is provided for migrating a connection between two computing nodes of a computing center. The method includes establishing the connection between a remote application and a local application on a first computing node, pausing the local application, restoring the local application to a second computing node, and reestablishing the connection between the remote application and the local application on the second computing node. A connection filter on the first computing node can maintain connections while the local application is paused. An application scheduler routine can cause the application to be restored on the second computing node where a second connection filter obtains connection information and reestablishes the connection to the remote application.

TCP connection migration

Method and apparatus for transactional fault tolerance in a client-server system is described. In one example, output data generated by execution of a service on a primary server during a current epoch between a first checkpoint and a second checkpoint is buffered. A copy of an execution context of the primary server is established on a secondary server in response to the second checkpoint. The output data as buffered is released from the primary server in response to establishment of the copy of the execution context on the secondary server.

Method and apparatus for transactional fault tolerance in a client-server system

A method is provided for maintaining a connection between a local application and a remote application while the local application is unavailable or inactive. The method includes pausing the local application and sending data over the connection to maintain the connection. A connection filter on the same computing node as the local application sends data to maintain the connection by responding to acknowledgements and heartbeats from the remote application. The connection filter is configured to initiate the restoration of the local application in response to data that it is not configured to handle.

Sustaining TCP connections

Methods and systems for efficient and accurate re-starting of data transfers using volatile data transfer mechanisms, such as pipes, following an error. According to one embodiment, portions of the transferred data can be saved in a fallback file. In addition, checkpoint commands can be periodically provided, upon which much of the data in the fallback file can be overwritten. During the original transmission, the data that has passed through the mechanism can be counted, and a signature for the data that has passed can be accumulated. After certain error conditions, the data in the fallback file can be recovered and passed to the receiving process and the transmission can then be resumed at the point where it had left off. After other errors requiring a complete re-start, a second signature of the re-transmitted data can be accumulated and original and second signatures compared to determine if the data is valid.
