In an alternative embodiment, the instant invention relates to chiral optically active chelating tertiary amino metal amides selected from compounds having the formulae: [Chel*N].sup..crclbar. M.sup..sym. ; [Chel*N].sup..crclbar. M.sup..sym. M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p, Z Mg.sup..sym. [Chel*N--M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p ].sup..crclbar., Mg.sup. ++ [Chel*N--M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p ].sup..crclbar. [M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p Z].sup..crclbar., Chel*N--Mg.sup..sym. [M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p ].sup..crclbar., Mg.sup. ++ [Chel*N--M'H.sub.m R.sub.n X.sub.p ].sub.2.sup..crclbar. and Mg.sup. ++ [Chel*N].sub.2 .sup..crclbar. wherein M, M', R, X, m, n, p and Z are as defined previously and where * denotes optical activity. The compounds of the instant invention are useful in metalations, synthesis, asymmetric synthesis and other reactions,. When chiral optically active chelating tertiary amino metal amides are used, the reactions which can be performed include all of the above, plus other reactions which produce chiral or stereoregular products.

Chelating tertiary amino metal amides

An asymmetric synthesis process which involves addition of optically active chelated organometal compounds of lithium, sodium, beryllium, magnesium, zinc, copper and cadmium to prochiral unsaturated substrates. The optically active chelating agent is not consumed and can be recycled.

This invention relates to the use of chelated lithium hydridoaluminates or hydridoborates in hydride reductions of inorganic substrates. Novel or improved reductions are obtained at increased rates or selectivities in hydrocarbon media to recover metals.

Reductions with chelated lithium hydridoaluminates or hydridoborates

Chelated lithium aluminum compounds are prepared by mixing a lithium aluminum compound such as a lithium aluminum hydride with a chelating agent wherein the agent contains at least one nitrogen atom. The chelating agent is a tertiary polyamine or aminoether. The resultant chelate is used for a variety of processes such as separations, catalytic reactions, substitution reactions, reductions, electrochemical reactions, and also as an oil and fuel additive.

An electrochemical cell is described which has an alkali metal anode, a cathode and a non-aqueous electrolyte which includes: (a) an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of inertly substituted and unsubstituted ethers, esters, sulfones, organic sulfites, organic sulfates, organic nitrites and organic nitro compounds; and, (b) electrolytically active alkali metal salts including alkali metal complex anion salts having the formula:

This invention relates to the use of chelated lithium hydridoaluminates or hydridoborates in hydride reductions of organic and inorganic substrates. Novel or improved reductions are obtained at increased rates or selectivities in hydrocarbon media.

Crude trans-1,2-cyclohexanediamine (DACH) contained in a mixture of amines derived as a by-product from the manufacture of 1,6-hexanediamine (HDA) or any other synthesis process crude by-product stream may be directly resolved into its optical isomers by using a mixture of tartaric acid and a second acid selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 carboxylic acids and HCl, without first separating the DACH in high purity from the mixed amine component by-product stream. Alternatively, racemic DACH may be separated from a crude mixed amine component by-product stream by use of oxalic, sulfuric and/or nitric acids. This racemic product may then be optically resolved by techniques known in the art.
