A multi-sectional percussive drill bit assembly for drilling holes in earth formation primarily used in conjunction with a pneumatic percussive device. The drill bit assembly is comprised of an easily removable bit that is rotationally driven by a lug and pocket structure and axially limited in travel by means of retaining members.

Multi-sectional percussive drill bit assembly

An apparatus is provided whereby a standard percussive-type downhole drill may be utilized in directional drilling. This eliminates the need for less efficient tri-cone type downhole motors in this application. A motor is provided directly on top of the hammer at the end of the drill string, which both rotates the hammer and allows the passage of compressed air to the hammer for its piston operation. A preferred embodiment of the motor is an air-driven turbine with a replaceable connecting subassembly to link the motor shaft to the hammer apparatus.

Directional downhole drill apparatus

A temperature-compensated Bourdon tube gauge for indicating a parameter of a pressurized fluid, including a support structure, a Bourdon tube having an open fixed end receiving the fluid and a free closed end carrying an indicating member, a dial member carrying a parameter scale disposed along the path of motion of the indicating member, and a temperature-responsive element for moving the dial member in accordance with a sensed temperature such that the indicating member indicates the fluid parameter on the dial member scale. The temperature-responsive element comprises a bimetallic element connected between the support structure and the dial member. The bimetallic element may be connected to the dial member by a lever having a 'variable fulcrum' which varies along the length of the lever in accordance with the shape of a cam with which the lever is maintained in contact.
