Devices and methods for storing and injecting a corneal tissue graft are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a tissue container and an adaptor configured to be coupled to the tissue container. The tissue container defines an interior region configured to receive a precut corneal tissue graft therein. The tissue container is also configured to be coupled to an injector assembly that can be used to move the corneal tissue graft out of the interior region of the tissue container and into an anterior chamber of a recipient's eye. The adaptor can be configured to prevent the tissue graft from migrating out of the tissue container and/or can be configured to be coupled to the injector assembly. The tissue graft can remain within the tissue container during storage, transport and during the implantation procedure until it is injected into the patient's eye.

Device to store and inject corneal graft

The invention provides medical devices comprising high-strength alloys which degrade over time in the body of a human or animal, at controlled degradation rates, without generating emboli. In one embodiment the alloy is formed into a bone fixation device such as an anchor, screw, plate, support or rod. In another embodiment the alloy is formed into a tissue fastening device such as staple. In yet another embodiment, the alloy is formed into a dental implant or a stent.

Implantable medical devices comprising bio-degradable alloys

A metallurgical process for producing a metallic implantable medical device, such as a stent, in a condition wherein the metallic alloy of the device has improved mechanical properties. The starting material is formed into an oversized tube which is drawn to finished outer diameter. The drawing process cold works the tube to produce a material having a high dislocation density and a yield strength that is above approximately 125 ksi. Next, the drawn tube is heat treated at a temperature of approximately one-half the absolute melting temperature of the alloy. The heat treatment causes dislocations to rearrange, forming sub-grains and re-crystallization of the grain structure. Upon cooling, a material is obtained having a yield strength between approximately 45-70 ksi and an elongation exceeding 40 percent. The material also has good resistance to fatigue fracture due to the fine grains and sub-grains that are established during the heat treatment.

Method of manufacturing an implantable stent having improved mechanical properties

An apparatus for imprinting a stent configuration image from a mask form onto a tubular stent blank. The stent blank has a longitudinal axis and a photosensitive coating on the outer surface thereof. The apparatus includes a journaling mechanism adapted to receive the stent blank, and operable to rotate the stent blank about its longitudinal axis; a radiation source operable to direct light at a first surface region of the stent blank when mounted in the journaling mechanism, to thereby expose the photosensitive coating on said first surface region of the stent blank; and a mask form movement mechanism configured to mount the mask form in the apparatus and to move the mask form along a path in which the mask form contacts the stent blank in said first surface region thereof along a concurrent convex arcuate segment.

Stent manufacturing apparatus

Disclosed herewithin is an apparatus for fabricating a stent which involves processing a tubular member whereby no connection points to join the edges of a flat pattern are necessary. The process includes the steps of: a) preparing the surface of a tubular member, b) coating the outside surface of the tubular member with a photo-sensitive resist material, c) placing the tubular member in an apparatus designed to simultaneously rotate the tubular member while passing a specially configured photographic frame negative between a light source and the tubular member, d) exposing the tubular member to a photoresist developer, e) rinsing the excess developer and uncured resist from the exposed tubular member, f) sealing the inner lumen of the tubular member, and g) treating the tubular member with a chemical or electro-chemical process to remove uncovered metal. By modifying the photographic negative, this process can be employed to fabricate a virtually unlimited number of stent designs and configurations.

This apparatus can be used in conjunction with a process which includes the steps of a) removing contaminates from a tubular member, b) coating the outside surface of the tubular member with a photo-sensitive resist material, c) placing the tubular member in an apparatus designed to simultaneously rotate the tubular member while passing a specially configured photographic frame negative between a light source and the tubular member, thereby exposing a specified pattern of light to the resist coated tubular member, d) exposing the outside surface of the tubular member to a photoresist developer for a specified period of time, e) rinsing the excess developer and uncured resist from the outside surface of the tubular member, f) treating the tubular member with a electro-chemical process to remove uncovered metal. This apparatus and method can be employed to produce an virtually unlimited number of stent designs and configurations. By modifying the photographic frame negative, the same process can be employed to fabricate various stent designs from a tubular structure.

This process can lend itself to virtually an unlimited number of stent designs and configurations. By modifying the photographic frame negative, the same process can be employed to fabricate various stent designs from a tubular structure.

Method for manufacturing a stent

Fly-fishing tweezers which are engageable with hackle or fishing line are formed from either metallic or polymeric material and include a pair of substantially parallel legs that extend from a proximal joint end. Each end of the legs of the fly-fishing tweezers is formed with an inwardly directed gripping member which has a friction bearing surface that will fixedly engage the hackle or fishing line. Furthermore, the tweezers are fitted with a locking slide that when moved in the distal direction, flexes the legs together and holds the gripping portions together. The fly-fishing tweezers include a rod member extending from the proximal end of the tweezers designed to be placed between the index finger and the thumb of an operator to faciliate the rotation of the tweezers around an axis, such as a fishing hook.

An expandable endarterectomy cutting tool for use in incising plaque at a stenosis in an artery of a patient includes a guide wire, an over-the-wire catheter, and a camming mechanism which is attached near the distal end of the guide wire. The cam mechanism is formed with a plurality of ramps which incline outwardly from the guide wire in a distal direction along the guide wire. A plurality of tethers each have one end attached to the catheter and their other end slidably mounted on one of the ramps in the camming mechanism. A cutting blade is attached to each tether near the end of the tether in the ramp so that as the guide wire is pulled in a proximal direction relative to the catheter, the blades are pushed by the tether up their respective ramp to be radially extended from the cam mechanism. On the other hand, pushing the guide wire in a distal direction relative to the catheter will draw each extended blade back down its respective ramp to retract the blades. In operation, the cam mechanism of the tool is placed distal to the stenosis and the blades are extended. The blades are then drawn across the plaque in the stenosis to weaken the plaque for subsequent dilation of the artery in an angioplasty procedure. The blades are then retracted and the tool is withdrawn from the artery.

Camming device

A load cell which includes a moveable load-receiving member coupled to a support member by three parallel bands, and having strain gauges connected to the middle band, so that the strain gauges are largely unaffected by off-center application of loads. In one load cell, the ends of all bands are connected in a cantilever connection to the support and load-receiving members, except for one end of the middle band which is pivotally connected to one of the members, this resulting in even less sensitivity to off-center loading.
