In certain aspects of the invention, an extrusion apparatus for making a multilayer article includes multiple discs, each of which has at least one passageway configured to permit fluid flow therethrough in a flow direction. At least one of the discs includes a cone shaped portion extending substantially parallel to the flow direction.

Implements, particularly medical instruments, formed at least in part of elongated polymer members, exhibit high torque fidelity after processing with tension, heat, and twisting. The processing orients the polymer in generally helical paths so that torque imposed at the proximal end can be transmitted to the distal end without substantial whipping, even if the implement follows a long and tortuous pathway. Applications include medical guidewires, catheters, and driveshafts.

A compact video slide projector provides video image signals representing a recorded image on a 35 mm slide for display on a TV set or video monitor. A sound module for motion picture cameras of the type adapted to receive a multi-purpose cassette in which separate photographic film and audio tape strips are commonly wound on cassette-contained supply and takeup spools but directed through separate paths between the spools, such paths including distinct photographic and audio or sound stations. The module carries a complete complement of sound recording components including a transducing head, a capstan drive and motor for advancing a run or loop of the sound tape past the transducing head and an organization of fixed and movable sound tape guiding members by which the positional relationship of the tape and the transducing head is accurately controlled. All components of the module are ultimately supported by a single supporting plate secured to the internal camera chassis structure by vibration damping means. The module is also associated with camera control functions in a way such that cassette insertion and removal from the camera is unimpeded by sound module carried components.

An improved photographic copy apparatus, usable with an original photographic picture to be copied and a photosensitive image recording material having different normalized image area formats thereby requiring cropping of the projected image of the original, for previewing the original picture, selecting a desired portion thereof to be copied that is compatible with the format of the recording material on a normalized basis, and projecting an image of the selected portion onto the recording material for exposure. The apparatus includes a viewing station having a selecting frame thereat. A viewing station picture holder is mounted for movement over the frame, framing the selected portion. By means of a connector, the viewing picture holder is coupled to a projection picture holder that is automatically moved transversely with respect to the lens axis in response to the framing procedure to automatically set it to a corresponding projection position whereat the optical system will project the same selected portion after the picture is transferred from the viewing picture holder to the projection picture holder.

An extensible and retractable compact self-developing camera including a first camera section for exposing and applying pressure to a self-developing film unit and a second camera section coupled in telescoping relation to the first camera section for mutual movement in opposite directions between extended and retracted positions. When extended, the first and second camera sections cooperate to form a film retention and/or imbibition chamber for receiving film units advanced thereinto by a pair of pressure applying rollers. In the retracted configuration, the second camera section slides over a major portion of the first camera section and forms a protective covering over at least the optical elements mounted thereon.

A slide viewer/copier operable in a viewing mode for projecting an image of a slide transparency film unit onto a viewing screen for viewing and a copy mode for projecting an image of the slide onto self-developing film unit for exposure and for processing the film unit to produce a photographic copy of the slide.

A carrying case is disclosed for photographic cameras of the compact collapsible type which may be extended or erected to an operative position without removal of the camera from the case. The case is constructed to safely contain the camera and securely support the same in all positions of camera movement from a compact folded position to a fully erected position and to permit complete operation of the camera during all normal photographic procedures, including the removal and insertion of film cassettes into a film magazine receiving chamber of the camera without the necessity of removing the camera from the case. The case is formed of specially constructed top and bottom case members that are provided with hinged sections and cooperating linkage which are movable with the camera's housing sections during the erection of the camera to its operative position. The top case member is provided with structure for preventing movement of the carrying case toward its operative position when the camera is still in its folded position.
