A system for generating a floating three-dimensional image display within a vehicle includes an image chamber including a first display adapted to project a first image, a first reflector associated with the first display and a first passenger, a second display adapted to project a second image, and a second reflector associated with the second display and a second passenger, and a transparent display positioned between the first reflector and the first passenger, and between the second reflector and the second passenger, the first reflector adapted to reflect the first image from the first display to the first passenger, and the second reflector adapted to reflect the second image from the second display to the second passenger, and the transparent display adapted to display information to the first and second passengers within an image plane positioned in front of the perceived first and second images.

A system includes a projector module configured to project a visual media for a user, a user tracking sensor configured to sense whether the user is observing the visual media, and a control module configured to detect whether the user is looking at the projector module based on the user tracking sensor, in response to detecting the user is looking at the projector module, control the projector module to initiate projecting of the visual media for the user, detect an interruption of the user observing the visual media based on the user tracking sensor, and in response to detecting the interruption of the user observing the visual media, control the projector module to pause projecting of the visual media for the user. The glare mitigation module further comprises a diffractive optical element comprising a plurality of layers stacked successively between the input and output surfaces, with the plurality of layers arranged to transmit the display light of the illumination device therethrough and to diffract an external light that enters the glare mitigation module through the output surface. The diffractive optical element is arranged to diffract the external light in a diffracted direction away from eyes of an occupant.

A display and testing system for a vehicle having a display surface. A light source emits a light when activated. A fiber-optic cable with opposite first and second fiber ends. The first fiber end receives light from the light source is directed to the second fiber end which emits the light to the display surface. A piezoelectric actuator is coupled to the fiber-optic cable adjacent the second fiber end and when actuated vibrates the second fiber end to project an image on the display surface while the light source is activated. A photodetector is configured to detect light and the second fiber end receives the image reflected from the display surface and directs the image to the first fiber end. The first fiber end emits and directs the image to the photodetector. The photodetector detects functionality of the display surface based on the image while the light source is activated.

The controller is programmed to receive a eye-tracking signal from the user tracker and control a polarization optics of the light beam emitted by the light source and modulated by the SLM to reroute the image encoded by the SLM for the plurality of vehicle occupants based on the eye-tracking signal, thereby allowing each of the plurality of vehicle occupants to view the image.
