A graphics projector for use in a vehicle includes a light source module. The light source module may include an LED array configured to produce a source light. The light source module further includes an optical filter in optical communication with the led array. The optical filter is configured to receive the source light and transmit a filtered light. The light source module further includes a focusing lens in optical communication with the optical filter. The focusing lens is configured to receive the filtered light and transmit a narrow-beam light. The graphics projector also includes an optical collimator in optical communication with the light source module. The optical collimator is configured to receive the narrow-beam light and transmit a collimated light. The graphics projector also includes an optoelectrical mirror in optical communication with the optical collimator. The optoelectrical mirror is configured to direct the collimated light to form a graphic.

A system for identifying a person of interest for an occupant within a vehicle with a head-up system includes a controller in communication with an external scene camera adapted to capture images of an external environment in proximity to the vehicle, identify at least one person of interest located within the external environment in proximity to the vehicle, characterize the at least one person of interest, determine appropriate augmentation graphics related to the identified at least one person of interest to be displayed for the occupant, and display, with the head-up display system, the augmentation graphics onto an inner surface of a windshield of the vehicle.

The glare mitigation module further comprises a diffractive optical element comprising a plurality of layers stacked successively between the input and output surfaces, with the plurality of layers arranged to transmit the display light of the illumination device therethrough and to diffract an external light that enters the glare mitigation module through the output surface. The diffractive optical element is arranged to diffract the external light in a diffracted direction away from eyes of an occupant.

The first fiber end receives light from the light source is directed to the second fiber end which emits the light to the display surface. A photodetector is configured to detect light and the second fiber end receives the image reflected from the display surface and directs the image to the first fiber end. The first fiber end emits and directs the image to the photodetector. The photodetector detects functionality of the display surface based on the image while the light source is activated.
