A patient interface system () that includes a patient interface assembly () and a headgear assembly (). The patient interface assembly () includes a frame (), a patient circuit connector (), a seal member (), and a coupling assembly () extending from the frame. The coupling assembly () is directed toward the users forehead when worn. The headgear assembly () includes an elongated pad support (), a headgear attachment element () disposed on the pad support (), a headgear strap () coupled to the headgear attachment element (), and an elongated headgear pad () coupled to the pad support (). The pad support, pad, or both are configured so as to extend from the forehead of the user generally along a centerline of the head and terminate proximate to a top of a head. In addition, a coupling assembly attachment assembly () is operatively coupled to the pad support () to couple the coupling assembly () of the patient interface device to the headgear assembly ().

An insufflation system that includes a first tube that inserts into a patient's airway for providing a primary flow of breathing gas to such a patient. At least one insufflation catheter is provided in or within the first tube for delivering a flow of insufflation gas to the patient. In one embodiment, a flow control system is coupled between the first tube, the insufflation catheter, and a source of insufflation gas to control the flow of gas between the patient circuit, the insufflation catheter, and the source of insufflation gas. In another embodiment, a ventilator and tracheal gas insufflation system are provided in a common housing.

Insufflation system and method

An insufflation system that includes a first tube that inserts into a patient's airway for providing a primary flow of breathing gas to such a patient. At least one insufflation catheter is provided in or within the first tube for delivering a flow of insufflation gas to the patient. In one embodiment, the flow of insufflation gas is delivered in a first direction generally toward the patient's lungs and in a second direction generally opposite the first direction so that the flow in the second direction is greater than the flow in the first direction. As a result, a negative stagnation pressure is created that is sufficient to substantially cancel out the positive stagnation pressure generated by flow in the first direction in conjunction with a pressure drop induced in the first tube by the presence of the insufflation catheter.

Insufflation system, attachment and method

An insufflation system that includes a first tube that inserts into a patient's airway for providing a primary flow of breathing gas to such a patient. At least one insufflation catheter is provided in or within the first tube for delivering a flow of insufflation gas to the patient. In one embodiment, the flow of insufflation gas is delivered in a first direction generally toward the patient's lungs and in a second direction generally opposite the first direction so that the flow in the second direction creates a negative stagnation pressure that substantially cancels out the positive stagnation pressure generated by flow in the first direction. In second embodiment, an exhaust vent is provided in the first tube for exhausting a flow of gas from the first tube at a rate that is equivalent to the rate at which the flow of insufflation gas is being delivered to the patient's airway, thereby preventing over-inflation of the patient's respiratory system. A third embodiment of the present invention involves a combination of the two embodiments discussed above.
