A lamp unit with a relay lens that allows two different focus points. Two different optical altering elements are hence simultaneously in focus. The elements can be taken in and out of focus to allow different effects.

Multiple focus point light

A light pattern generator that can be used to form a gobo for use in a projection optical system. A transparent plate is coated with a stack that is absorptive and reflective. The stack is formed to be ablatable in the form of a pattern. The stack can have multiple different layers with multiple different characteristics, all of which are ablated by the laser.

Method and apparatus for making a high resolution light pattern generator on a transparent substrate

Spot illumination apparatus and methods are described. According to one implementation a spot luminaire includes a light source for emitting a beam of light and a projection lens configured to project the beam of light towards a distant target. A first field stop, through which the beam of light passes, is positioned between the light source and the projection lens. A filter apparatus is positioned proximate the first field stop and is adapted for selectively moving at least one variable density filter across the beam of light. A relay lens group is positioned between the first field stop and the projection lens. The relay lens group is configured to prevent the at least one variable density filter from being imaged by the projection lens. Methods for providing stage lighting are also described.

Stage lighting methods and apparatus

An optical system, light fixture and method are provided that include a light source, a non-circular aperture, a filter apparatus, and a lens. The light source produces a first beam of light, a portion of which is passed by the non-circular aperture. The filter apparatus is positioned proximate to the non-circular aperture and is operable to selectively position a desired portion of a variable density filter in the portion of the first beam of light passed by the non-circular aperture. The lens collects the portion of the first beam of light passed by the non-circular aperture to produce a second beam of light.

An optical system, projector and method are provided that include a projection gate between a light source array and a projection lens. The projection lens projects an image of the projection gate. A relay lens group between the light source array and the projection gate prevents the projection lens from projecting an image of the light source array. A lamp housing is provided for use with a projector housing. The lamp housing includes a light source array and a relay lens group located between the light source array and a projection gate in the projector housing. An illumination source for optical fibers is provided that includes a relay lens group between a light source and a coupling in a housing. The relay lens group prevents an image of the light source from being formed at input ends of optical fibers positioned in the coupling.

A zoomable light beam spreader comprising first and second multiple-lens arrays includes a plurality of plano-convex lenses in correspondence with a plurality of plano-concave lenses having matched, curved optical surfaces. In a zero-power state, the two multiple-lens arrays are very closely spaced so that the matched convex and concave surfaces effectively cancel each other optically but, as the two arrays are separated coaxially along the axis of a light beam, beam divergence angle increases as a function of the distance of separation. A large amount of beam divergence is obtained when the curved surfaces of the plano-concave lenses of the second array are positioned beyond the focus points of the plano-convex lenses of the first array.

Zoomable beamspreader with matched optical surfaces for non-imaging illumination applications

An illumination system, reflector and method for producing a beam with a substantially circularly symmetric irradiance distribution from a light source having a plurality of linear light emitting elements arranged with their longitudinal axes substantially parallel with each other and spaced substantially symmetrically about a central longitudinal axis. The reflector includes a plurality of reflecting zones corresponding to, and aligned with, the plurality of light emitting elements. A surface of a reflecting zone may be defined by rotating a generator curve around an axis of rotation that is not coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the light source.

Illumination system

A wash light optical system for use with a light beam generator includes a converging optical element that reduces the size of a light beam from the light beam generator, a color filtration mechanism that is capable of filtering the reduced light beam to a selected one of two or more colors, a spreading optical element that increases the size of the filtered light beam, and a beam shaping optical element. The optical system may also include a dimming mechanism that is capable of reducing the intensity of the light beam to a selected one of two or more intensities. The optical system may be enclosed in a housing that includes a coupling mechanism capable of detachably mounting the housing to the light beam generator.

Optical system for a wash light

A first multiple-lens array designed with positive-power lenses produces multiple bundles of converging light rays, and a second multiple-lens array designed with negative-power lenses produces multiple bundles of collimated light rays at a certain optimal separation between the two multiple-lens arrays. As the axial separation between the two multiple-lens arrays increases, the divergence of the entire beam of light increases.

Zoomable beamspreader for non-imaging illumination applications

A stage lighting instrument having a high-intensity light source or lamp coupled with a concave reflector, and a projection optical system having a lens system that includes an aperture stop. The lens system forms a real image of the light source encompassing or near the aperture. A color filter and dimming system may be located within the lens system so that the color filter and dimming elements occupy a volume of space near the aperture stop and within the real image of the light source. By locating the color and dimming apparatus near the aperture stop and within the volume occupied by a real image of the light source, superior color mixing, dimming and integration is achieved using simple, un-patterned filters and a simply-shaped dimmer panel. A color filter and dimming system may alternatively be located as close to the light source as possible so that a real image of the color filter and dimming elements is formed near the aperture stop where the image of the light source is formed. The alternate location, forming a real image of the filters and dimmer, is equivalent to locating the actual color filter and dimming elements at the aperture stop. Diffusion glass elements used in a similar apparatus, located at the aperture stop, transform spotlight properties into wash-light properties in a continuously-variable manner.
