Method and system for remote telltale reset

A system and method for vehicle design and manufacture. The method includes designing a vehicle, building a pilot vehicle of the designed vehicle, installing a telematics units in the pilot vehicle, configuring the telematics unit to monitor systems of the pilot vehicle during vehicle operation, operating the pilot vehicle in a captured test fleet, obtaining data from the telematics unit during the operating in a captured test fleet, altering vehicle design data in response to the obtained data and, building a production vehicle with the design influenced by the altered vehicle design data.

The invention provides a method and system for remotely inventorying electronic modules installed in a vehicle. A vehicle telematics unit sends an identification request to at least one electronic module. The telematics unit receives at least one electronic module identifier in response to the request. The identifier includes the serial number and software revision for the electronic module. The received identifier is transmitted from the telematics unit to a call center. The call center, or a quality center to which the call center sends the transmitted identifier, determines if the transmitted identifier corresponds with an identifier included in an electronic module identifier database. The database includes an identifier for each module that is intended to be installed in the vehicle. A quality assurance notice is sent based on the determination, indicating either that the correct module is installed in the vehicle or that an incorrect module must be replaced.

Method and system for remotely inventorying electronic modules installed in a vehicle

A method for updating vehicle diagnostics software via a telematics unit is based on the occurrence of a service event as detected by the telematics unit. Upon the connection of a vehicle diagnostics device to a vehicle, the telematics unit receives a scan tool configuration data and a vehicle code. The determination whether the scan tool configuration is current based on the vehicle code is made at the telematics unit. Based on the determination, the call center sends an updated scan tool configuration data to the telematics unit. The telematics unit offers the updated scan tool configuration data to the vehicle diagnostics device for reprogramming.
