A pneumatic aircraft tire has carcass plies and/or breaker plies which are reinforced by high modulus reinforcement cords embedded in a rubber composition that contains no free amines and has a 300% modulus of 12-18 MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 23 MPa as tested per ASTM D412, and a T90 of between 30 and 40 minutes at a reference temperature of 135 degrees C. as tested per ASTM D2084. The cords in the carcass plies and/or breaker plies have a tenacity of 6.6 to 8.2 g/denier, an initial modulus of 120 to 280 g/denier, an elongation at break of 8 to 18% and a shrinkage of not greater than 3%. Polyester reinforcement cords are preferred.

Aircraft tire

An aircraft tire 10 has at least one circumferentially extending reinforcement insert. At least one reinforcement insert 90 is located on one side of the tire. Each insert 90 preferably has two cord reinforced members 91,92 having bias angled cords. The cords are equal but opposite in orientation relative to the cords of the adjacent member. The pairs of reinforced members 91,92 extend from the bead portion 18,20 and terminate in a radially upper portion of the sidewall 14A,16A. Each pair of reinforced members 91,92 is interposed between the carcass plies 36,37,38,39,40,41, and the sidewall of the tire 10. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the inserts 90 are located on only one side of the tire. Alternatively, the inserts can be symmetrically added to each side of the tire.

Aircraft tire with reinforcement insert

An aircraft tire 10 has at least one circumferentially extending reinforcement insert. At least one reinforcement insert 90 is located on one side of the tire. Each insert 90 preferably has two cord reinforced members 91,92 having bias angled cords. The cords are equal but opposite in orientation relative to the cords of the adjacent member. Bach pair of reinforced members 91,92 is interposed between the carcass plies 36,37,38,39,40,41, and the sidewall of the tire 10. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the inserts 90 are located on only one side of the tire. Alternatively, the inserts can be symmetrically added to each side of the tire.

A tire (10) suitable for use on an aircraft equippped with cambered landing gear has a symmetrical carcass structure (11) and belt structure (12) but has an asymmetrical tread portion (16). On one side of a central groove (17) the tread portion is devoid of any grooves, but on the other side of the central groove a number of grooves (18, 19) extend circumferentially about the tread.
