The present invention is a novel device, system, and method for runtime extension framework architecture for extending a system. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a runtime extension framework architecture may have an event manager for identifying and coordinating handling of events. The architecture may have two or more event handlers. Some event handlers may be dedicated to handling events associated with interfacing with an application program interface and some of the internal event handlers handle events as directed by the event manager.

Runtime extension framework

An extensible, object-oriented framework describes various generic elements of legacy automation systems. That framework is used as a basis for porting one or more of those elements to another ('target') automation system. Objects in the framework, known as 'extensions,' adapt information from the legacy system to a corresponding, generic representation. Compilers express those representations in the target system. The framework thus translates the &#x201c;old&#x201d; automation configuration for use in a &#x201c;new&#x201d; automation system. The scheme can be extended to accommodate arbitrary control systems (i.e., other manufacturers and product lines), new sub-domains within the automation domain (e.g. operator interfaces, batch control etc.) and new target systems without altering the core framework.

Generic framework for porting legacy process automation assets to a new control system

Systems and methods for object linking and embedding for process control networks are disclosed. The exemplary system may include one or more field devices. The system may also include a process control server for monitoring the field devices, storing field information and one or more parameters for each of the field devices, and associating each of the field devices input/output data with a text-based tag. The system may also include a client computer capable of accessing the one or more parameters of each field device by identifying the field information containing the desired text-based tags. The data may be displayed in real time.

System and method for the editing and accessing real-time OPC data with text-based tags

A system and method for batch process control with diverse distributed control system (DCS) protocols is disclosed. A run-time extension acts as an adaptation layer that allows a single batch manager to supervise controllers utilizing diverse DCS protocols. The run-time extension receives commands transmitted from the batch supervisor in a first DCS protocol, translates the commands to a second DCS protocol utilized by a controller, and transmits the translated command to the controller to control various equipment associated with the controller. A database automation object (DBA) inputs configuration information from controllers utilizing diverse DCS protocols, extracts equipment information from the configuration information, generates protocol translation logic based on the configuration information, and translates recipe and formula information included in the configuration information into a common format.
