A wearable transmitter assembly includes a housing containing a radio frequency transmitter and tamper detecting circuit that are attached to an appendage of an individual with a buckle and strap. A light emitter and a light sensor are disposed in the housing and extend to the outside of the housing through one or more apertures. The strap includes an embedded optical fiber. Attachment of the housing to the buckle positions the emitter and sensor adjacent the ends of the optical fiber in the strap to complete an optical path or circuit from the emitter around the appendage to the sensor. The housing is sealed closed, including sealant between the emitter, the sensor and the aperture, providing a water tight enclosure for said transmitter from the time of its manufacture. Attachment of the housing to the buckle completes a seal blocking contaminates, such as water, water vapor, and soap from the ends of the optical fiber, the emitter and the sensor.

Wearable transmitter with optical tamper detection

A transmitter assembly is characterized by a buckle including fasteners for holding a strap and the buckle together on an appendage of an individual independent of a transmitter. The buckle also includes latches for attaching the transmitter to the buckle after the buckle is strapped to the individual. An optical fiber running through the strap is held by the fasteners with the ends of the fiber in predetermined positions relative to the buckle. The transmitter covers the strap fasteners, rendering the fasteners inaccessible to the individual, and aligns an emitter and sensor on the transmitter housing with the ends of the optical fiber in the predetermined positions. The ends of the strap are aligned adjacent one another by the buckle, so the buckle adds little to the length of the strap, permitting length measurements without considering the buckle contribution.

Method and apparatus for programming sensors in a security system comprising a central monitor for generating a localized magnetic pulse signal, and one or more sensors each incorporating a magnetic switch for sensing the magnetic pulse signal generated by the central monitor and in response enabling programming of the sensor with data encoded within the magnetic pulse signal.

Non contact programming for transmitter module

A security system for monitoring and detecting security breaches in a home comprises a central monitor and a plurality of remote sensors for one or more of fire, smoke, intrusion, appliance operation and the like. Each of the sensors has a transmitter for transmitting an electronic message when the sensor goes into an alarm condition. The central monitor has a receiver to receive the electronic messages. An electronic microprocessor system decodes the received electronic message and takes the necessary course of action in accordance with a programmable scheme retained in electronic memory of the microprocessor system. The central monitor has a speech synthesizer responding to inputs from the microprocessor system. A keyboard is provided on the central monitor for allowing a user to interact with the security system. The microprocessor system is programmable via the keyboard to permit the user to customize the programmable scheme to render it unique to the user. The microprocessor system actuates the speech synthesizer to synthesize predetermined messages in response to input from the keyboard and in accordance with the programmable scheme based on received electronic message from the transmitters. The microprocessor system is capable of checking data as it is entered by the keyboard against what is required by the programmable scheme. This checking system permits the security system to announce an error message should the entered data be incorrect.

Voice interactive security system

A security system for sensing the status of various security detectors used in, for example, home security such as fire, intrusion, emergency and appliance operation protection is disclosed. The detectors transmit, usually via radio frequency, various messages to a central monitor. To enable proper communication, the transmitters are programmed to transmit messages unique to the originating detector. The transmitters may be programmed at one station and then moved to the detector for insertion therein. During this transport, it is important that a volatile memory of the transmitter be retained. This is accomplished by a low power source. A disarming device is provided to disarm the transmitter during transport to prevent the transmitter from draining a short term power source by transmitting a message. This avoids the loss of any programmed information in the evaporative memory.
