Disclosed is an instrument that may an interior tube and an external tube. The exterior tube may be fixed relative to an interior tube, where the interior tube may rotate or oscillate relative to the exterior tube. Further, the two tubes may be co-bent such that an angle is formed by both of the tubes.

Flexible member for angled system

Aspects of the disclosure relate to surgical cutting systems having a surgical tool and a powered hand piece. The surgical tool can include a cutting tool having a coupling portion for selective connection to a drive pin of the hand piece. The coupling portion defines a tang that is configured to promote self-alignment of the cutting tool and the drive pin during connection of the cutting tool and the hand piece, thus promoting ease of use.

Coupling portion for rotary surgical cutting systems

An inner member rotatable in an angled outer tubular member of a rotary surgical cutting instrument includes first and second tubular members. The first tubular member includes a rigid proximal portion, a rigid distal portion, and a flexible intermediate portion. The proximal and distal portions are comprised of a first material and the intermediate portion is comprised of a second material. The second tubular member is coaxially disposed around the first tubular member along the intermediate portion. The second tubular member includes a proximal section, a distal section, and a central section. The central section is flexible and the proximal and distal sections are rigid. The second tubular member is comprised of a single material. The proximal section is fixedly coupled to the proximal portion and the distal section is fixedly coupled to the distal portion.

Inner tubular member for angled rotary surgical instrument

Disclosed is a system to power a tool. The tool may be powered in a selected manner that may have irrigation and/or coolant provided therewith. The irrigation and cooling fluid may be provided at substantially at a working end and/or distal end of the instrument assembly.

A surgical cutting instrument including a first tubular member, a second tubular member, a sleeve member, a third tubular member, and an orientation member. The first tubular member includes a cutting tip. The second tubular member has a distal region forming a cutting window. The first tubular member is co-axially disposed within the second tubular member such that the cutting tip is selectively exposed at the cutting window. The first and second tubular members are co-axially disposed within the sleeve member. The third tubular member is co-axially disposed around an intermediate section of the first tubular member, an intermediate region of the second tubular member and the sleeve member. The orientation member is rotatable to transmit a rotational force applied to the orientation member to selectively rotate the second and third tubular members relative to the sleeve member to effectuate spatial rotation of the cutting window.

Surgical cutting instrument

An inner member rotatable in an angled outer tubular member of a rotary surgical cutting instrument includes first and second tubular members. The first tubular member includes rigid proximal and distal portions comprised of a first material and a flexible intermediate portion comprised of a second material. The proximal portion includes a hub. The distal portion terminates at a distal end configured to couple with a cutting tip. The intermediate portion extends between and is fixedly coupled to the proximal and distal portions.

A surgical cutting instrument including a first tubular member, a second tubular member, a sleeve member, a third tubular member, and an orientation member. A distal section of the first tubular member includes a cutting tip. The distal region of the second tubular member forms a cutting window. A surgical method of removing tissue of a patient includes grasping a surgical cutting instrument. The instrument includes an outer blade including a tubular body, an end cap, and a cutting window defined by an edge on at least the end cap, and an inner blade including a cutting tip, the inner blade co-axially disposed within the outer blade, the cutting tip including a cutting edge extending toward the end cap of the outer blade, wherein the cutting tip is rotatably exposed at the cutting window. The method further includes positioning the cutting window and cutting tip to a target site, supplying fluid through an irrigation pathway to the cutting window and the target site, rotating the cutting tip of the inner blade to selectively cut the tissue, and aspirating fluid and cut tissue.

Method for resection of tumors and tissues

A cutting device for use with a powered surgical tool includes an outer blade and an inner blade. The outer blade includes a tubular body, an end cap, and a cutting window defined by a beveled edge on the tubular body and the end cap. The inner blade includes a cutting tip. The inner blade co-axially disposed within the outer blade such that the cutting tip is rotatably exposed at the cutting window. The cutting tip has castellations extending toward the end cap of the outer blade and opposing teeth extending radially toward one another across an opening of the cutting tip.
