Systems and methods for non-invasively measuring intracranial in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. One embodiment includes a method for estimating an intracranial pressure of a patient, including introducing a tracer into the blood of a patient, recording, using an imaging device, the traversal of the tracer through a brain of the patient as a kinetic curve, estimating a mean transit time (MTT) of the tracer through the brain of the patient based on the kinetic curve, measuring a mean arterial pressure (MAP) of the patient, calculating an intracranial pressure index as MAP−Ck/MTT, where C is a constant to scale proportional relationships based on healthy patient population characteristics, and k is a constant in pressure/time, and providing the intracranial pressure index. In various embodiments, regions of the brain unaffected by transient vascular abnormalities are identified and are used for data collection.

Systems and methods for non-invasive measurement of intracranial pressure

Systems and methods for stroke detection in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. One embodiment includes a system for detecting strokes, including a processor, a first ultrasound transmitter located on a patient's head in communication with the processor, a first ultrasound receiver located on the patient's head in communication with the processor, a memory in communication with the processor, including a stroke diagnostics application, where the stroke diagnostics application directs the processor to transmit a first ultrasound signal from the first ultrasound transmitter across a patient's brain, the brain comprising a first and second hemisphere, receive the first ultrasound signal using the first ultrasound receiver, where the ultrasound signal is affected during transit by harmonics generated by microbubbles in the blood of the patient stimulated by the first ultrasound signal, and detect that a stroke has occurred based on the harmonic effects on the first received ultrasound signal.

A method of diagnosing the occurrence or non-occurrence of a blood vessel blockage or hemorrhage comprises non-invasively applying ultrasound to a location on a patient's body, where the ultrasound is applied in an alternating and pulsed fashion, administering acoustic amplifiers to the patient, monitoring a feedback acoustic response signal of the acoustic amplifiers triggered by the ultrasound, and determining a diagnosis based at least in part on a relationship between an acoustic response signature of the acoustic response signal and a baseline acoustic response signature.

Methods and devices for diagnosis of blood vessel blockage or hemorrhage

Methods and apparatuses are provided for initiating stroke treatment 'in the field' and/or during the transport of the patient to a care facility. The capability is provided to adjust automatically to the individual 'therapeutic window' for each single patient, which is crucial because of the significant differences in skull morphology between humans of different age, gender and race. Further, the methods and apparatuses are based on the use of non-invasive application of ultrasound, as well as the non-invasive application of ultrasound in combination with an acoustically active agent, such as microbubbles, where stable cavitation of the microbubbles caused by the ultrasound may be relied upon as an underlying mechanism for both the therapeutic application as well as its control.
