Provided is a burner which includes a pipe having a free end region designed to be housed in a furnace quarl. The pipe includes one or more fuel feed ducts surrounded over part of their length by a sheath which defines an oxidizer feed channel and is fastened to a flange. A jacket is disposed around at least part of the length of the end region so as itself to be housed in the quarl and to define a feed channel for a second oxidizer between the jacket and the internal wall of the quarl. The jacket is fastened to a flange for securing to the quarl and the flange for the sheath is fastened to that for the jacket. The burner has particular applicability in industrial furnaces, especially for melting non-ferrous materials, for rehearing or for annealing.

Combustion process especially applicable to cement works, in which process it is desired to use fuels which are difficult to ignite. To do so, a flame comprising a primary zone and a secondary zone is created. The hot primary zone is created using an oxy-fuel flame, which makes it possible to preheat the fuel which is difficult to ignite so as to raise it to the suitable temperature in the secondary zone where it burns, with air, in order to create the main flame. Applications: cement, metallurgy, glass, etc.

Combustion process applicable to the manufacture of cement

An injector for a burner is provided in which assemblies for injecting the main and auxiliary fuels and the oxidizer are arranged radially, one around the other, about a longitudinal axis. The injector has a main-fuel outlet, an oxidizer outlet, and an auxiliary-fuel outlet on the respective assemblies. The injector can be used in incinerator applications, such as in methods for producing clinker.

In this process the material is passed through a precalcination device equipped with at least one fuel injector at the outlet of which a fuel injection zone is formed, then the at least partially calcined material is passed into the rotary kiln which at its downstream end, is equipped with a primary combustion unit. At least one oxygen rich fluid with an oxygen concentration by volume higher than that of the products of combustion from the rotary kiln is injected near to the injection zone so that the oxygen rich fluid can supply from 1% to 40%, and preferably form 1 to 10% of the stoichiometric amount of oxygen needed for the combustion of the fuel injected by the injector.

Process for calcining an ore-based material

The invention relates to a method for heating a furnace comprising at least one burner capable of operating on an oxidant the oxygen content of which can vary; in a first period (P,) the burner is supplied with practically pure oxygen so as to provide a large amount of energy for heating, in a second period (P,) the burner is supplied with an oxidant, the oxygen content of which can vary between about 100% and 21%, in a third period (P,), the burner is supplied with an oxidant, the oxygen content of which is minimal, and which corresponds to a pilot period which requires only a small amount of heating energy. This method makes it possible to optimize the use of the furnace according to the desired thermal performance and oxidant operating costs.
