Systems and methods for dynamic dimming of a set of displays sharing a single energy source are provided. Image data is received from an external camera of a vehicle. A light intensity level of an external light source in the image data is determined based on the image data. A light angle of the external light source is determined with respect to the vehicle based on the image data. A desired brightness level is generated based on the light intensity level and the light angle. If a first display of a plurality of displays of the vehicle is in a line of sight of a driver gaze direction, a command is issued to adjust a brightness level of the first display to the desired brightness level and dim the other displays to a dim brightness level. The desired brightness level is greater than the dim brightness level.

Systems and methods for dynamic dimming of a set of displays sharing a single energy source

Aspects of the disclosure include equipment and process schemes for using a plastic decorative light guide of a vehicle as a high-speed optical interconnect. An exemplary method can include forming a decorative light guide from a transparent material. The decorative light guide includes a first insert and a second insert. A light characteristic for optical communication through the decorative light guide is selected based on a current color of the decorative light guide. Light having the light characteristic is injected by a light emitter into the first insert and the light is received by a light receiver from the second insert.

Aspects of the disclosure include equipment and process schemes for using a glass panel of a vehicle as a high-speed optical interconnect. An exemplary method can include forming a first insert in a first region of a glass panel of a vehicle and a second insert in a second region of the glass panel. A light emitter can be placed on a surface of the first insert. A light receiver can be placed on a surface of the second insert. The method can include injecting, by the light emitter, light into the first insert. The method can include receiving, by the light receiver, the light at the surface of the second insert.

An automotive vehicle includes a closure arranged relative a closure frame to selectively cover an opening to the vehicle. The vehicle also includes an actuator configured to move the closure among a plurality of positions including open and closed positions, and a first sensor configured to detect motion of the closure among the plurality of positions. The vehicle additionally includes a latch assembly with an engaged state to retain the closure in the closed position and a disengaged state to permit the closure to move among the plurality of positions. A second sensor is configured to detect the engaged or disengaged state of the latch assembly. The vehicle further includes a controller which is configured to, in response to the first sensor detecting motion of the closure among the plurality of positions and the second sensor detecting the latch assembly in the engaged state, provide a diagnostic signal.

System and method for detecting unlatched condition of closure

One general aspect includes a method to restrict vehicle operations in response to a detection of vehicle occupant impairment, the method including: detecting a vehicle occupant is in an impaired state; in response to detecting the vehicle occupant is in the impaired state: when a vehicle is in an autonomous driving mode, restricting the vehicle occupant from being able to shift the vehicle to a manual driving mode; and when the vehicle is in the manual driving mode, providing a notification configured to warn the vehicle occupant of risks associated with operating the vehicle while in the impaired state, or the notification being configured to recommend that the vehicle occupant shifts the vehicle to the autonomous driving mode, or the notification being configured to alert the vehicle occupant that the vehicle will automatically be shifted to the autonomous driving mode, or some combination thereof.
