The invention relates to a vacuum display device comprising a display screen () having picture elements (), cathode means () for generating a plurality of electron beams (EB), each corresponding to one of the picture elements (), and addressing means () for addressing the picture element () through modulation of the intensity of an electron beam corresponding to the picture element (). A channel structure () is arranged adjacent the cathode means (). The channel structure () comprises a plurality of electron beam guidance cavities (), each corresponding to one of the picture elements (), and protects the cathode means () from incident ions. The exit () of the cavity () is smaller than the entrance (), so that an electron beam (EB) exiting from the cavity () has a particularly high brightness and spatial uniformity.

Vacuum display device

A method of printing a pattern on plates for flat display devices, in which method, in succession, a raised pattern is provided, which is then subjected to a printing process by means of an unpatterned screen-printing screen. For example, a pattern of phosphor dots or electrodes can be provided in this manner. It is also possible to make partitions, which form channels or cells on a plate for a plasma display device or PALC display device.

Method of printing a pattern on plates for a flat display device

The display device includes a vacuum-tight envelope having a transparent front wall which is provided with a display screen. The display device comprises an internal selection structure (67) which is provided with holes and with a plurality of electrodes for addressing desired pixels on the display screen. The display device is provided with connection elements (71, 72) which each comprise a springy end portion (73, 74), which contacts an electrode (61, 62) on the selection structure (10), and which connection elements further comprise a feed-through portion (75, 76) to make an electric connection, through a wall of the envelope, between the electrodes (61, 62) and a voltage source situated outside the envelope. Preferably, the springy end portion (73, 74) includes a material which retains its springiness up to temperatures of at least 450.degree. C. for example a spring steel, and the material of the feed-through portion (75, 76) is adapted to the expansion of the material of the envelope. Preferably, the plates (60, 60', 60') of the selection structure (67) are displaced relative to each other in such a manner that the plates (60, 60', 60') do not overlap at locations where the springy end portions (73, 74) of the connection elements (71, 72) contact the electrodes (61, 62). Thin-panel picture display device having a luminescent screen and a large emitting plane electron source, such as a large number of juxtaposed electron propagation ducts operating by means of wall interaction of electrons. By means of an addressing system, electrons extracted from ducts are directed towards desired locations on the luminescent screen. The addressing system comprises a preselection system and a fine-selection system with an intermediate spacer plate of insulating material provided with apertures for passing electrons arranged in between. To provide the possibility of applying large voltage differences across the thickness of the spacer plate, the walls of the apertures are at least partly coated with a coating of a low .delta. material having a low secondary emission coefficient (.delta..sub.max .ltoreq.3.5), particularly Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, AlN, Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 or Y.sub.2 O.sub.3.

Picture display device with addressing system

A device, such as a PALC device, has a gas-tight envelope accommodating a number of channels comprising an ionizable gas. Each channel has two electrodes. Adjacent electrodes in different channels are interconnected. Each pair of interconnected electrodes has a lead, which leaves the gas-tight envelope. The pitch between the exits of the leads is larger than the pitch of the channels. In embodiments, the electrodes are grouped together, so that a reduction of the number of leads exiting the gas-tight envelope can be achieved, which enables an (additional) increase in the pitch between the exits of the leads to be attained.

The thin-type display device (1) with a vacuum envelope has a transparent front wall (3), which is provided with a display screen, and at least an electron source (5) and a duct structure, which cooperates with the electron source (5) and which extends substantially parallel to the front wall (3). Ducts (6, 6', 6') of the duct structure serve as electron-propagation means and are provided with walls (11, 11', 11') of an electrically insulating material having a secondary emission coefficient which is suitable for electron propagation. In the display device (1) 1.ltoreq.s/w.ltoreq.5 and s.multidot.w.gtoreq.5 mm.sup.2, where s is the depth of the ducts (6, 6', 6') and w is the width of the ducts (6, 6', 6'). Preferably, the width w.gtoreq.1.5 mm and the depth 3.5.ltoreq.s.ltoreq.15 mm. The voltage difference over the length of the ducts (6, 6', 6'), measured parallel to the front wall (3), is less than 75 V/cm, preferably less than 40 V/cm.

Thin-type display device

A flat display device is provided with a wire cathode or wire cathodes and with apertures which allow passage of electrons emitted by the wire cathode. The wire cathode is stretched in a wire-cathode support having positioning grooves for the wire cathode. This support engages the element in which the passages are made. The support and the element are provided with corresponding contacting surfaces.

A display device comprising electron-transport ducts having entrance apertures for electrons and means for generating electrons and injecting electrons into the transport ducts via the entrance apertures. Measures have been taken to improve the picture quality. For example, the location of the entrance aperture is not the same for each transport duct, but instead shows a variation. This enables an improved control of the electron flow in the transport ducts to be achieved; in particular crosstalk between the transport ducts can be reduced.

Display device of the flat-panel type comprising an electron transport

A touch screen device includes a panel; a sensor coupled to the panel for detection of a force applied to the panel and a data processor coupled to the sensor for processing data transmitted by the sensor upon detection of the force. The sensor is provided to be co-deformable with the panel for detecting a deformation of the panel itself as a result of the force being applied. This avoids the use of a rigid frame as in conventional devices, saving weight, costs and components, and reducing manufacturing problems. The sensor means may comprise strain gauges that are physically integrated with the panel. Combined with a display such device presents a minimum parallax.

A data processing device comprises a touch screen with a touch position sensor. The position sensor is suitable to detect a touch position on the screen from a change in a current pattern in a conductive panel. The device also comprises a touch force sensor provided with a second conductive panel which extends substantially parallel to the touch screen. The screen is at least partly movable relative to the second panel in a direction transversely of the second panel. The force sensor is suitable to determine a force from a capacitance value between the touch screen and the second panel. The device is suitable for the combined processing of the position and force detected in response to touching.

Data processing device comprising a touch screen and a force sensor

A device comprising semiconductor elements and conductor tracks of an oxidic superconductive material, electrically conductive connections being established between the semiconductor elements and the conductor tracks, is provided with an electrically conductive antidiffusion layer between the semiconductor elements and the conductor tracks. The antidiffusion layer consists of an amorphous alloy of two transition metals, which alloy has a crystallization temperature of at least 900 K. The amorphous alloy has the composition A.sub.x B.sub.1-x, wherein A is selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta, wherein B is selected from Ir, Pd and Pt, and wherein x has a value from 0.4 to 0.8.
