An integrated optical transceiver, comprising a laser component, comprising an array of VCSEL diodes formed on a laser diode substrate; a laser driving component, comprising laser diode driving circuitry formed on a laser driving circuitry substrate; a photodiode component, comprising an array of photodiodes formed on a photodiode substrate; and a photodiode driving component, comprising photodiode driving circuitry formed on a photodiode driving circuitry substrate; a first heat sink comprising a connected piece of material to transport excess heat away from the integrated optical transceiver and connected to both the laser and photodiode driving components; and an electrically insulating material separating the photodiode substrate from the first heat sink and being air or dielectric material with a relative dielectric constant &#x3b5;&#x3c;10, wherein the electrically insulating material provides a gap having an effective electrical distance of at least 80 &#x3bc;m between the photodiode substrate and the first heat sink.

Integrated optical transceiver

An out-of-band (OOB) signal detector is disclosed. The OOB signal detector may include a first node configured to receive an alternating current (AC) portion and a direct current (DC) portion of an electrical signal. The AC portion may include modulated OOB data carried by the electrical signal. The OOB signal detector may also include a current to voltage processing circuit configured to extract the AC portion of the electrical signal. The OOB signal detector may additionally include a limiting amplifier circuit configured to receive the extracted AC portion and to generate an amplified signal based on the extracted AC portion. The OOB signal detector may further include an analog-to-digital convertor circuit configured to sample the amplified signal and to generate a digital sample that represents the modulated OOB data.

Out-of-band signal detection

A circuit may include amplifier circuitry configured to receive a current signal at an amplifier input node, convert the current signal to a voltage signal, and output the voltage signal at an amplifier output node. The circuit may also include overload circuitry configured to receive a replica DC input voltage and a replica DC output voltage. The overload circuitry may be further configured to detect that the current signal exceeds a threshold level based on the replica DC input voltage and the replica DC output voltage. In addition, the overload circuitry may be configured to, in response to and based on detecting that the current signal exceeds the threshold level, direct DC current of the current signal through a DC shunt path and direct AC current of the current signal through an AC shunt path. The AC shunt path may be different from the DC shunt path.

Individual DC and AC current shunting in optical receivers

A method to measure and report electromagnetic radiation power includes receiving electromagnetic radiation and generating an electrical signal in response to the received electromagnetic radiation. The electrical signal may have a magnitude based on the power of the electromagnetic radiation. The method also includes applying a logarithmic gain to the electrical signal to generate a logarithmically amplified electrical signal. The method also includes sampling the logarithmically amplified electrical signal to generate a digital sample of the logarithmically amplified electrical signal.

Electromagnetic power measurement and reporting

A system is disclosed that may include an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) module configured to automatically adjust the gain of a receiver, which is configured to receive a signal. The signal includes a number of commands, which have a characteristic command length and a characteristic command interval. The command length may have a substantially shorter duration than the command interval. The system may also include a slicer configured to interface to a command processor. The system includes a command processor communicatively coupled with the AGC module and/or the slicer for providing a notification to the AGC module and/or the slicer associated with the ends of the commands. The AGC module is configured to adjust the gain of the receiver and the slicer threshold voltage is updated when the notification is received from the command processor.

Receiver automatic gain control (AGC) and slicer

A circuit includes a front-end circuit, a receiver stage and a controller. An example front-end circuit includes a common base input device, a first current mirror and a second current mirror, where the common base input device has its emitter coupled to a photodiode, its collector coupled to an input of the first current mirror, and its base coupled to a reference voltage to reverse bias the photodiode and where an output of the first current mirror is input into the second current mirror. In another example, a voltage drop resistor is coupled to a cancellation signal output of the first current mirror and an operational transimpedance amplifier (OTA) has inputs coupled to the voltage drop resistor and to a reference voltage and an output coupled to a compensating impedance and to a control input of a variable current source designed to feed the emitter signal input.

Circuits for active eyewear

A circuit and method for reducing power consumption in an I/R receiver system includes determining a duty cycle of a command cycle comprising a series of command pulses separated by nulls and enabling and disabling selective active components of an I/R receiver system in accordance with the duty cycle. In an embodiment, the enabling of the active components commences during a null prior to the arrival of a new command pulse. In a further example embodiment, the enabling includes first enabling a first set of active components having a first settling time, waiting for at least the first settling time, and then second enabling a second set of active components having a second settling time.

I/R receiver with duty cycle synchronized power reduction

A frequency mixer having parallel mixer cores is described that is configured to heterodyne a signal. In an implementation, the frequency mixer includes a first mixer core and a second mixer core. A first balun is connected to the first mixer core and configured to furnish a LO signal occurring in a first range of frequencies to the first mixer core. The mixer includes a second balun coupled to the second mixer core, and the second balun is configured to furnish a LO signal occurring in a second range of frequencies during a second time interval. The mixer includes a first biasing voltage source that is center tapped to the first balun and a second biasing voltage source is center tapped to the second balun to further prevent operation of the at least substantially non-operational mixer core.

A receiver having an intermediate frequency error correction circuit includes a mixer having a source input, a local oscillator input, and an IF output, an adjustable frequency local oscillator having an output coupled to the local oscillator input of the mixer, an IF filter having an input coupled to the IF output of the mixer and an IF filtered output, where the IF filter has an IF filter frequency response, and control circuitry coupled to the local oscillator such that the frequency of the local oscillator can be varied to at least: partially correct an IF frequency error.

Receiver with intermediate frequency error correction

An example bandpass filter calibration system includes a MUX, first and second signal sources coupled to inputs of the MUX, a bandpass filter coupled to an output of the MUX, a rectification circuit including a plurality of rectifiers having a corresponding plurality of rectifier outputs coupled to an output of the bandpass filter, a summer having a plurality of inputs coupled to the plurality of rectifier outputs, a low pass filter coupled to an output of the summer, an ADC coupled to an output of the low pass filter, and a calibration processor unit coupled to an output of the ADC. The calibration processor unit controls the MUX to selectively apply the first signal source and the second signal source to the bandpass filter and calibrates the bandpass filter by a least one of increasing filter center frequency and decreasing filter center frequency of the bandpass filter.
