A method for characterizing power quality events in an electrical system includes deriving electrical measurement data for at least one first virtual meter in an electrical system from (a) electrical measurement data from or derived from energy-related signals captured by at least one first IED in the electrical system, and (b) electrical measurement data from or derived from energy-related signals captured by at least one second IED in the electrical system. In embodiments, the at least one first IED is installed at a first metering point in the electrical system, the at least one second IED is installed at a second metering point in the electrical system, and the at least one first virtual meter is derived or located at a third metering point in the electrical system. The derived electrical measurement data may be used to generate or update a dynamic tolerance curve associated with the third metering point.

Supplemental techniques for characterizing power quality events in an electrical system

A method for quantifying power quality events in an electrical system including a plurality of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) includes processing electrical measurement data from or derived from energy-related signals captured by at least one first IED of the plurality of IEDs to identify a power quality event at a first point of installation of the at least one first IED in the electrical system. An impact of the power quality event at a second point of installation in the electrical system is determined based on an evaluation of electrical measurement data from or derived from energy-related signals captured by at least one second IED of the plurality of IEDs at the second point of installation proximate to a determined time of occurrence of the power quality event at the first point of installation.

Systems and methods for characterizing power quality events in an electrical system

A method of acquiring data and performing calculations on the data using a provider service. A provider ticket service (PTS) receives tickets from one or more clients. Each ticket includes a calculation identifier and a payload. The calculation identifier identifies a calculation to be performed using information in the payload. The PTS associates a unique ticket identifier with each ticket. A ticket manager submits a selected ticket from the PTS to a provider host service (PHS), which determines which provider is to perform the calculation identified by the selected ticket by inspecting provider identification information in the selected ticket. The PHS launches a provider host thread (PHT) that invokes the provider determined to perform the calculation identified by the calculation identifier of the selected ticket. The provider performs the calculation and returns its result to the PHS, which passes the result back to the PTS, which returns the result to the requesting client.

Calculation engine and calculation providers

A system and methods for creating a logical profile for physical devices in a system to interface with a monitoring system is disclosed. A profile identity is selected. A plurality of physical devices from the system is selected. The physical devices such as a meter or a circuit breaker include an output or an input. An input or output is classified for at least one of the plurality of selected physical devices as a tag. The plurality of selected physical devices are represented to the monitoring system by the profile identity and the at least one tag of the selected physical devices.

Profiling of composite physical devices for monitoring/control systems

A method of parsing a natural language phrase to retrieve data associated with a power monitoring system. An input receives a natural language phrase including terms, one of which indicates a data manipulation action for manipulating data of the power monitoring system. A parser component parses the phrase to extract the terms and maps those terms to corresponding category items. The parser component constructs a structured query based on the category items and provides the query to a processor component that retrieves the data from a data source specified in the submitted phrase. The processor component also manipulates the data according to the data manipulation action. The output from the processor component is provided to a presentation component that formats the manipulated data for presentation on a video display, and the formatted manipulated data is displayed on the video display.

Natural language navigation for power monitoring systems

A method of managing a power monitoring and control informational system that encompasses multiple intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) of varying types comprises creating different device types, including tags associated with each of the device types; creating at least one profile for each of the device types; and generating a user interface display that enables a user to create a new profile, the display including options to create a new profile or to create a profile by modifying a copy of data representing an existing profile.

System for managing a power monitoring system containing a multiplicity of intelligent electronic devices

A translation tool that facilitates translation of a software product into multiple target human languages without requiring recompilation of any binary deliverables. The translation tool is installed by an end user who wishes to translate the software product into the target human language. The end user does not need any programming knowledge. The translator tool extracts all the strings from various sources in the software product, and displays them on a UI to a translator or exports them to a spreadsheet file. The translator translates all the strings via the UI or by modifying the spreadsheet file and saves the translations. The translator tool uses an MSI utility to package the translated deliverables into an installer. The resulting set of install files are now in the target language and can be deployed without having to recompile any of the binary files (EXEs, DLLs) or other content not requiring translation.

Translation process component

A globalization component including a base class NewResourceManager that provides a layer of abstraction from the Microsoft Resource Manager and a new WinForm class that inherits from the .NET Windows Form and utilizes NewResourceManager. The globalization component uses culture information and resource folder information from the registry to set a culture-specific resource folder and file. Decoupled assembly culture-specific resource files include all string resources in the target language and can be stored in any folder. New culture-specific resource files are easily generated without having to recompile the assembly or any satellite assemblies and without having to modify any configuration files. The NewWinForm class can also iterate through all controls on the form and if values are missing from an associated resource file, the resource manager will save the missing controls to a text file. Translators need only receive this text file to translate from one human language to another.

Globalization component

A method of partitioning and archiving electrical data received from a power monitoring system in a database including a plurality of tables organized by at least group and date. Data in the database is queried by first searching an electrical data catalog to determine whether the data exists in the database before searching the database. The data is targeted by group and by date, yielding faster response times and enhanced database scalability. An electrical data retention table includes a set of rules governing, for each group, the maximum age of the data that can be stored in the table in the database. A data table associated with a particular group whose age exceeds the maximum age provided in the set of rules is removed from the database and from the electrical data catalog. If desired, the entire data table can be imported back into the database.
