Downhole imaging systems and methods are disclosed herein. An example method includes projecting flushing fluid into an optical field of view of an imaging system disposed on a downhole tool. The example method also includes directing a pattern of light onto a target in the optical field of view via a light source of the imaging system and determining three-dimensional shape information of the target based on the light directed from the target and received via an image detection plane of the imaging system. The example method further includes determining a characteristic of the target based on the three-dimensional shape information.

Downhole imaging systems and methods

Remote sensing systems and methods for analyzing characteristics of moving drilling equipment, for example, rotational movement rate, longitudinal movement rate, geometry or combinations thereof, are provided. The sensing systems may include a detectable substance, marking equipment for marking the drilling equipment with the detectable substance, detection equipment for detecting the detectable substance and capturing data from which drilling equipment movement and/or geometry may be estimated, and processing equipment for estimating movement and/or geometry information from the captured data. The methods include marking the drilling equipment with a detectable substance, detecting the detectable substance, and using data captured during the detection to analyze movement and geometry of the drilling equipment.

Systems and methods for detecting movement of drilling/logging equipment

Drill bit assembly imaging systems and methods are disclosed herein. An example method disclosed herein includes directing light conveying an image of a target through a portion of a drill bit assembly and capturing the image via an image sensor disposed inside the drill bit assembly. The example method also include determining drilling information based on the image via an image processor disposed inside the drill bit assembly.

Drill bit assembly imaging systems and methods

Example systems described herein to perform downhole fluid analysis include a depressurizer to be positioned downhole in a geological formation to depressurize a formation fluid in the geological formation. In such example systems, the depressurization of the formation fluid is to cause bubbles to nucleate in the formation fluid. Such example systems also include an imaging processor to be positioned downhole in the geological formation. In such example systems, the imaging processor is to capture imaging data associated with the formation fluid and to detect nucleation of the bubbles in the formation fluid based on the imaging data. Such example systems further include a controller to report measurement data via a telemetry communication link to a receiver to be located outside the geological formation. In such example systems, the measurement data includes a bubble point of the formation fluid calculated based on the detected nucleation of the bubbles.

Methods and systems for downhole fluid analysis

An imaging-based measurement apparatus includes a light source, and at least one optical element for positioning in a flow conduit, the at least one optical element being part of a light path for light emitted by the light source, where light along the light path passes through a portion of fluid flowing in the flow conduit. An image sensor detects the light and measures content of the portion of the fluid.

Downhole Camera systems and methods. Certain systems include a high-speed video camera configured with a 360 degree optical field-of-view, a jet-flushing system capable of temporarily displacing debris substantially simultaneously along all azimuths within the optical field-of-view, and optionally a downhole real-time image processing system for reducing the amount of captured video transmitted to surface. Certain methods include capturing a set of images downhole using a high-speed video camera having a 360 degree optical field-of-view, substantially simultaneously temporarily displacing debris in the optical field-of-view for at least a portion of the time the camera is capturing video using a jet-flushing system capable of projecting flushing fluid substantially simultaneously along all azimuths in the borehole. The methods may also involve pre-processing the set of images to reduce the number of images or reduce the amount of information transmitted to surface.

Imaging methods and systems for controlling equipment in remote environments are disclosed herein. An example system disclosed herein to control equipment in a remote environment includes an imaging assembly to determine feedback data based on measurement data obtained from a plurality of remote imaging systems controllable to process different respective optical fields-of-view in the remote environment, a flushing assembly controllable to project fluid to clear the optical fields-of-view in the remote environment, and a controller to process the feedback data to determine a control signal to control operation of at least one of (1) the plurality of remote imaging systems or (2) the flushing assembly.

Imaging methods and systems for controlling equipment in remote environments

Systems, sensors, and methods for high-speed image monitoring of baseplate movement in a vibrator. The systems can include a baseplate defined by an area, disposable at a ground surface to direct a seismic force into the ground surface. The system can include a reaction mass coupled to and positioned above the baseplate to generate the seismic force at the baseplate. The system can include an actuator assembly coupled to the reaction mass to vibrate the reaction mass, as well as high-speed image units directed at the area of the baseplate. The high-speed image units can include photo detectors to sense a distribution of acceleration across the area of the baseplate, and a light source emit light to be sensed by the photo detectors. The system can also include a controller coupled to the actuator assembly, that drives the actuator assembly.

An example system for downhole measurement disclosed herein comprises a tool to be positioned downhole in a formation, the tool comprising an imaging system to determine measurement information from imaging information obtained by sensing light, and an illumination system to control source light to be emitted by the tool. The system also comprises an optical cable to sense an optical field of view that is remote from the tool, the optical cable including an optical fiber bundle comprising a bundle of imaging fibers to convey the imaging information from a sensing end of the optical cable to the imaging system, and a plurality of illumination fibers positioned outside the bundle of imaging fibers, the illumination fibers to convey the source light from the tool to the sensing end of the cable, the illumination fibers to emit the source light to illuminate the optical field of view.

Imaging systems and image fiber bundles for downhole measurement

An example system described herein to perform downhole fluid analysis includes an imaging processor to be positioned downhole in a geological formation, the imaging processor including a plurality of photo detectors to sense light that has contacted a formation fluid in the geological formation, each photo detector to determine respective image data for a respective portion of an image region supported by the imaging processor, and a plurality of processing elements, each processing element being associated with a respective photo detector and to process first image data obtained from the respective photo detector and second image data obtained from at least one neighbor photo detector, and a controller to report measurement data via a telemetry communication link to a receiver to be located outside the geological formation, the measurement data being based on processed data obtained from the plurality of processing elements.

Imaging methods and systems for downhole fluid analysis

Methods and systems for borehole telemetry utilizing a tool configured or designed for deployment in a borehole traversing a subterranean formation. The tool includes a downhole telemetry module; a surface telemetry module; and a datalink between the downhole and surface modules configured or designed for transferring data over one or more data communication channels utilizing at least one telemetry scheme selected from a plurality of telemetry schemes based on at least one downhole parameter.
