An integrated security and communications system combines a security system to either or both of a telephone system interface and a data interface. Users have access to voice-mail or other PBX-type telephone functions, many or all of which can be accessed not only at telephone sets, but also at keypads of the security system. Data functions such as electronic mail and possible partial or full World Wide Web access may also be provided at the keypads, as well as at connected personal computers or computer terminals. The system keypads may be enhanced to better accommodate some of the added functions. A central communications station could be used to maintain secure, shared private key encrypted communications with each premises system, using a redirector arrangement or relay to allow each premises system to communicate securely with a central monitoring station and with other systems. The secure communications system could be used without a security system to allow secure computer-to-computer communications.

Integrated security and communications system with secure communications link

A cord-reel assembly mounted within a wall and powered by an in-wall electric power line or an adjacent wall socket. The cord-reel assembly includes a reel rotatably supported within a housing and an extension cord wound on the reel. An electrical socket is located on one end of the extension cord. The extension cord unwinds from the reel to position the electrical socket at locations remote from the housing. In alternate installations, a cover plate jointly covers the cord-reel assembly and the adjacent wall socket. The cover plate also electrically couples the cord reel assembly to the wall socket. Additional features such as an on/off switch, surge protection and surge indicator may also be provided on the cover plate.

Cord-reel assembly mounted within a wall

A modular assembly for electrically coupling to a duplex wall socket having a pair of outlets. A first modular unit has a first set of electrical prongs for inserting into one of the outlets. The first set of electrical prongs power a large number of receptacles provided on the first modular unit. An aperture is formed within the first modular unit to expose the other outlet. A second modular unit having a second set of electrical prongs is plugged through the aperture into the second outlet. The second modular unit includes a reel mounted extension cord with additional receptacles on the end of the extension cord. When used together, the modular units matingly engage to provide a stabilized assembly with a large number of local and remote receptacles.

Modular outlet assembly

The present invention teaches a method for uniformly flooding a nuclear imaging device with radiation from a radiation-emitting calibration source and for correcting for the non-uniformity in count density of nuclear imaging sources and apparatus for carrying out the method. The method includes the steps of positioning a nuclear imaging flood source beneath or adjacent a nuclear imaging device such as a gamma camera having a plurality of radiation sensing elements; moving the source in a controlled motion; thereby blurring or diminishing the effects of any non-uniformities in the source. Apparatus for moving the source includes a support for the source and a means for moving the source adjacent to or beneath a camera. Circular motion may be achieved by connecting the support to means for rotating it, such as a motor drive shaft, or by manually rotating it. Other simple motion may be achieved by means which move the source about a simple curve. If complex motion is desired, one embodiment of the apparatus includes a plurality of geared shafts interconnected between the source support and a drive motor. The resultant motion is a complex continuous patterned motion which presents many points on the source to each of a plurality of sensors or detectors in the nuclear imaging device.

Apparatus and method for flooding a nuclear imaging device with

A microprocessor controlled integrated alarm and touch tone telephone system which allows the alarm system to be accessed, programmed, and reported upon through a touch tone telephone, either locally or remotely. Under most circumstances, the telephones on the premises can be operated in a normal manner. However, the alarm system selectively monitors the telephone activities for coded touch tone instructions specifically for the alarm system, and responds thereto by issuing synthesized voice reports on the status of the alarm system. A touch tone decoder circuit decodes dialed touch tones, such that the telephone can be utilized similar to a normal keyboard panel to access and control the alarm system. An internal power supply is provided for the telephone for supplying electrical power thereto independently of the outside telephone lines which normally supply power, in the event the outside telephone lines are inoperative. A ring detector circuit is provided for detecting the presence of a ring voltage across the outside telephone lines, and the microprocessor is responsive to a detected ring voltage to disconnect the telephone from the internal power supply and connect it to the outside telephone lines for normal ringing and usage of the telephone. The microprocessor counts the number of rings by which the telephone is being contacted by an off-premises telephone, and after a given number of rings, answers the telephone to allow the user of the off-premises telephone to dial touch tone encoded instructions into the integrated system and to receive voice synthesized reports therefrom.

Integrated alarm and touch tone telephone system

Two-way telephone communication is established between a subscriber-dwelling and a remote station using the automatic dialer of existing security apparatus. A speaker and a microphone are placed in the dwelling. A diplexer electrically coupled to the automatic dialer and responsive to a tone of a given frequency, operates a switch which selectively applies either the microphone or the speaker to the audio circuitry of the dialer. When the dialer is triggered, the switch couples the microphone to the audio circuitry of the dialer whereby sounds in the dwelling are communicated to the remote station. When an employee at the remote station applies the tone to the link, the diplexer causes the switch electrically to isolate the microphone and couple the speaker to the dialer whereby the employee of the station can communicate with the dwelling. Alternate operation of either the speaker or microphone prevents accoustical feedback between the two.

Monitoring apparatus using telephone link

A voltage enhancement device in the nature of a DC-to-DC converter is used in a centrally monitored alarm system of the type having at least one alarm detection device at a first location, an alarm monitoring panel at a second location, and telephone lines interconnecting the device in the panel. The telephone lines have an internal resistance which causes some of the voltage applied at the input of the lines at the first location to be dropped thereacross with resultant decrease in voltage at the second location. The alarm monitoring panel includes an indicator, such as a meter, which requires a minimum detectable voltage to provide a suitable indication or deflection of the meter to distinguish between an alarm, normal or trouble condition at the first location. The DC-to-DC converter only utilizes the voltage available at the first location and increases the magnitude of the voltage to compensate for the internal line resistance to assure that the voltage which is available at the second location is at least equal to the minimum detectable voltage.

Voltage enhancement circuit for central station monitored alarm systems

An improved alarm system is disclosed which includes one or more remote stations. Each remote station is connected to the central or control station by only three conductors or leads. The control and remote stations each include a pair of back-to-back LED diodes, the diodes of each pair emitting a different color light when current flows therethrough. The control and remote stations each also includes a key switch which is operative to 'enable' and 'disable' the alarm circuitry at the control station. By controlling the direction as well as the wave shape of the currents passing through the LED diodes, five different visual signals may be provided at the control and remote stations to indicate the status of the alarm system. Actuation of any of the key switches reverses the current through the LED diodes so that the different colors are indicated when the alarm system is 'enabled' or 'disabled'. Pulsing means is provided at the control station for producing either a constant current through the LED diodes when an alarm condition of an instant loop does not exist and when a delay loop is open, and a pulsed current when an alarm condition in the instant loop is generated. The current in each direction can be constant, zero or pulsed through the LED diodes so that each pair of back-to-back diodes can emit five distinct visible signals indicative of different conditions of the alarm system.
