New perfluoroalkyl polytriazines containing pendent iododifluoromethyl groups are prepared by the reaction of perfluoroalkyl dinitriles with ammonia to form poly(imidoylamidines), followed by the cyclization of the imidoylamidine groups with, e.g. various mixtures of a perfluoroacyl fluoride with an .omega.-iodoperfluoroacyl fluoride. The polytriazines obtained can be cured by heat which causes crosslinking at the iododifluoromethyl groups by elimination of iodine and formation of carbon-to-carbon bonds.

.omega.-Iodoperfluoroalkylene oxide acyl fluorides are prepared by reacting a perfluoroalkylene oxide .alpha.,.omega.-diiodide with fuming sulfuric acid in the presence of zinc sulfate. The iodoacyl fluorides are intermediates for use in synthesizing perfluoroalkylene ether diimidate esters.

Symmetrical perfluoroalkylene oxide .alpha.,.omega.-diacyl fluoride is prepared by reacting a perfluoroalkylene oxide, .alpha., .omega.-diiodide with fuming sulfuric acid in the presence of zinc sulfate while adding chlorine.

Fluorinated ethers are provided that contain two functional end groups (ester and iodide groups) separated by a plurality of difluoromethylene, fluoro-trifluoromethylmethylene and oxygen groups. The compounds are useful as intermediates, particularly in the synthesis of fluoroalkylether difunctional compounds which can be used in the preparation of improved thermally stable polymers.
