A cylinder, for example a lickerin, and feed mechanism create a supply of individual fibers, for example pulp, which follow the rotation of the lickerin. These fibers are deflected from the lickerin in the form of a stream by means of a plate arranged parallel to the lickerin. A conveying screens intercepts the stream of fibers and accumulates them into a web without the use of a high pressure stream of air to doff the fibers from the lickerin or to capture fibers on the conveyor. Further, the housing for the apparatus is opened so that there are no seals to compress the web after it is produced. A feed tray located next to the lickerin can be used to include other particulate materials (fiber or granules) in the main fiber stream and a tapering of the deflector plate can separate the component of the blended fiber-particulate material stream into layers in the resulting web distinguished by particle weight.

A counterbalanced loading device including a compensated main piston cylinder and piston rod operating through a load transfer assembly to apply a desired load to a pressure foot. The weight of the main piston and its associated load transfer assembly is counterbalanced by a separate counterforce piston, commonly driven with the main drive piston through a pneumatic circuit.

An analog digital control device having both analog and digital memory with multiple, readily accessible, selectable access ports to allow the control device to be quickly programmed by unskilled personnel and thus render the device particularly useful for the laboratory environment. The device includes a multiplexer switch for receiving both digital and analog input and for generating an output to a comparator to run an external component. An accessing and switching circuit is repeatedly used to access each of the multiple channels of digital memory in sequence.
