The present disclosure is directed to a method and apparatus for locating a target location on a reaction cell and using the target location to perform an assay. In an example embodiment, a method of performing at least one assay includes obtaining at least one image of a fluid sample located on a reaction cell and creating a set of derivative data including a plurality of derivative data points based on the at least one image. The method also includes determining an image gradient data point for each of the plurality of derivative data points and determining a target location of the fluid sample in the reaction cell based on the image gradient data points. The method further includes performing at least one assay using the target location of the fluid sample in the reaction cell.

Method and apparatus for selecting slide media image read location

An assay device includes a support, test elements arranged thereover, and a diverter defining a common sample addition area of the device. The diverter conducts respective portions of a fluidic sample from the area to each of the test elements. Another assay device includes the test elements, one a dry slide element, disposed over the support at least partly in proximity to each other to define a common sample addition area. Apparatus for analyzing a sample includes an assay device having the test elements, one a dry slide element. A controller operates a metering mechanism, to apply the sample to the assay device, an incubator, and a measurement device per a timing protocol to determine a characteristic of the sample. Methods for enabling an assay device to perform multiple tests based upon a single sample metering event include are also described.

Multiplexing with single sample metering event to increase throughput

Disclosed is a use of reaction kinetics to generate multiple dose-response curves from a single reaction, thus eliminating the need to run a second experiment with additional sample, reagents, and time to cover a broader measuring range than is available in a standard assay. Using a single protocol, the differences in the reaction kinetics for different sample concentrations yield different responses at different measurement times. Selection of the appropriate dose-response curve cross-section increases the measuring range and accuracy of the assay from a single reaction without substantially increasing imprecision. Several overlapping dose-response curves are pieced together to provide a standard curve to ensure continuity throughout the expanded measuring range.

Methods and devices are provided for providing access through tissue to a surgical site. Generally, the methods and devices allow adjustment of a surgical access port's longitudinal length. In one embodiment, a surgical access port is provided that includes a housing having a cannula distally extending therefrom. The housing can be configured to cut a proximal portion of the cannula to adjust a longitudinal length of the cannula and hence of the surgical access port. In another embodiment, a surgical access port is provided that includes a cannula formed of a plurality of modular segments removably coupled together. One or more of the segments can be configured to be removable from the cannula to change the cannula's longitudinal length.
