Apparatus and methods for holding and cleaning non-permeable contact lenses which includes the application of an electromagnetic field about the contact lenses which are held in a cavity containing a conductive solution and an adsorbent membrane to capture the contaminants being removed from the lenses. Proteins, lipoproteins and other contaminants adhere to the surface of non-permeable lenses. An adsorbent is positioned between the lens and an electric current source so that current flows from the current source through the adsorbent and over the surface of the contact lens so that contaminants on the lens are loosened and migrate to the adsorbent to which they adhere, thus permitting effective removal from the solution. A lens holding device formed by a novel method is used with the cleaning apparatus and includes joined body portion sections foldable upon each other along a fold line, the sections having openings therein which align with each other when the sections are folded to form, along with closing seals, holding compartments. Depending upon current levels and the time period involved, contaminant removal can exceed 90% with the use of less than 0.25 watt of energy.

Apparatus for and method of sterilizing medical and laboratory devices and cleaning contaminants from contact lenses at low voltages, the apparatus including a housing carrying a sterilizing and cleaning well, electrodes, appropriate controls and a power source and the method comprising the steps of positioning a contact lens and an adsorbent so that the adsorbent is disposed between the contact lens and an electric current source, immersing the contact lens, the adsorbent, and the current source in a saline or other appropriate solution, and then applying electric current from the power source through the adsorbent and only over the surface of the contact lens so that contaminants carried by the contact lens migrate to the adsorbent.

Apparatus for and method of sterilizing medical and laboratory devices

A handle adapted for replacing a heater and blower system removably located in a central opening defined a top enclosure of a countertop oven. The handle comprises a mounting system for removably attaching the handle to the top enclosure in order to replace the heater and blower system when the heater and blower system is removed. The handle enables a user to remove the top enclosure from the bottom enclosure by lifting up on the handle when the handle is installed in the top enclosure. In this manner, the countertop oven may be converted to a food server comprising the handle, the top enclosure, and the bottom enclosure.

A rack invention includes a rack having a rack surface and a plurality of legs attached to the rack surface. Each of the legs is made of wire and has two straight segments extending downwardly from the rack surface and a connecting segment which connects together the straight segments. The connecting segment is shaped so as to allow the rack surface to be placed at one of a plurality of predetermined distances above the surface in the oven. The cooking rack invention also includes a plurality of such racks which may be used together in an oven. In such an instance, the length of the straight segments of one rack are different that those of another rack, so that the racks provide different ranges of height adjustability.

A device is provided to air-pop popcorn in combination with a convection-type oven. The device comprises a spring-mounted bowl to hold corn kernels and includes a slot in the sidewall for popped popcorn to exit therefrom. The exiting popcorn falls into the cooking chamber of the oven where it is held warm until ready to eat.
