A convertible patient transport apparatus includes a frame assembly adapted for supporting a patient. A plurality of bent pivot legs are attached to the frame assembly and mounted on respective wheels for rolling movement of the transport apparatus over a supporting surface. Each of the pivot legs includes a vertical upper portion, an intermediate portion formed at an angle to the upper portion, and a vertical lower portion formed with the intermediate portion. An actuator pivots the legs between an open position, wherein the distance between the lower portions of laterally adjacent legs is increased, and a closed position, wherein the distance between the lower portions of laterally adjacent legs is reduced. In the open position, the width of the transport apparatus is expanded to move the frame assembly over a bed of the patient. In the closed position, the width of the transport apparatus is narrowed.

A device for retaining two individual members in an adjacent condition includes a support base with an arrangement for attaching the support base to a first of the two individual members, a latching arm pivotally mounted to the support base, a biasing member attached to a distal end of the latching arm for causing the latching arm to pivot downwardly under gravity's influence with a portion of the latching arm extending upwardly beyond an upper surface of the base and a receiver having an arrangement for attaching the receiver to a second of the individual members and a receiving member extending from the attachment arrangement in a manner for at least partially surrounding the latching arm with the receiving member defining an opening through which the biasing member may be passed for placing the two individual members in an adjacent relation.

Retaining device

A patient transport and care apparatus includes a skeletal frame structure having a superstructure defining a patient support area which is configured to fit over a conventional patient support platform. One end of the skeletal frame structure is open so that the device may be rolled into and out of surrounding relation with the patient support structure. The device also includes a patient lifting system, a weighing system and an electrical distribution system. Various patient care accessories, equipment and medication may be carried conveniently on the apparatus.

An appliance for stretching a pathologically contracted Achilles' wrist tendons includes a resilient strap having a first end and a second end, a harness for securing around the leg of a user, a fastener for attaching the first end of the resilient strap to a shoe so that the resilient strap extends out from the front of the shoe, and a fastener for attaching the second end of the resilient strap to the harness so that the resilient strap is bowed against its resilient resistance over the front of the shoe. A channel for receiving the first end of the resilient strap is preferably recessed into the bottom of the shoe. The harness preferably includes a securing strap and a foam rubber pad having an inner surface which rests against the leg of the user and having an outer surface to which the securing strap is attached. The harness may additionally include nylon fabric attached to the outer surface of the pad, and cotton fabric attached to the inner surface of the pad. The securing strap is preferably fitted with several ring members and the second end of the resilient strap has a clasp which removably engages a ring member to select the desired tension of the resilient strap. Also optionally provided is a high friction strip of material sized to fit into the channel for securing over the resilient strap first end to enhance the friction grip between the shoe and the ground.
