A process for the production of 4,4'-(phenylenediisopropyl)bis(2,6-dialkylanilines) of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and each is a (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl group, R.sub.3 is hydrogen or halogen, and the central phenylene function is substituted in the 1,3 or 1,4 position, by reaction of a corresponding diisopropyl benzene with a corresponding aniline in the presence of catalytic amounts of aluminum chloride. The 4,4'-(phenylenediisopropyl)-bis(2,6-dialkylanilines) are used as cross-linking agents for epoxy resins, as chain lengthening agents for polyurethanes, for the production of hydrolysis protective agents for polyurethanes, or for the production of UV stabilizers in varnishes.

Process for the production of 2,2'-dichloro-6,6'-diethylmethylene-bis-aniline or such mixtures. 2-ethyl-6-chloroaniline is condensed with itself or an aniline having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are the same or different and are straight-chained or branched having 2 to 4 C atoms, with the proviso that R.sub.5 can also be chlorine, in acidic medium with formaldehyde or compounds which form formaldehyde. The compounds in the mixture can be condensation products of two molecules of such aniline derivatives.
