Biocidal compositions that contain biocidal components, such as an oxidant, and mixed with said components a combination of inorganic compounds capable of reducing the oxidative capacity of the biocidal components by forming a low-melting glass when heated. The biocidal composition may be heated by being ignited or subjected to a heating source, such as a fire.

Solid biocide formulations

The invention provides stabilized concentrated aqueous solutions of alkali hypobromites, as well as a process for the preparation of said stabilized concentrated solutions at low temperatures, comprising reacting a concentrated alkali hydroxide aqueous solution with bromine, adding to the non-stabilized reaction product an aqueous solution of a sulfamic compound to stabilize the hypobromite, and oxidizing bromide to produce additional hypobromite.

Process for the preparation of concentrated solutions of stabilized hypobromites

The present invention relates to fire retardant polymer compositions possessing a non-liner structural configuration resulting by the reaction of N-tribromo-phenylmaleimide, with or without comonomer, with a preformed backbone polymer, in which the bromine content is above 1.2% by weight bromine. The polymer is selected from polystyrene, polyolefins, polyamides, rubbers, polyesters, acrylics, polymeric dienes and mixtures or copolymers thereof. The comonomer present with the N-tribromophenyl-maleimide is selected from the group consisting of acrylonitrile, styrene and vinyl chloride. According to the invention the non-linear structural configurations are obtained either by grafting or crosslinking of the N-tribromophenylmaleimide onto the preformed backbone polymer in the presence of free radical producing means. Optionally, synergistic fire retardant additives such as antimony oxide are incorporated in the compositions. The preformed backbone polymer must be no less than 4% by weight of the total resin present in the compositions. The flame retardant polymer compositions have improved properties compared with those obtained with known flame retardant reagents.

Flame retardant polymer compositions

The present invention relates to fire retardant polymer compositions obtained by the blending of monomeric N-tribromophenylmaleimide, as a fire retardant additive with a polymer. The preferred amount of bromine in the composition is above 0.5% by weight thereof. The polymer is selected from styrenic polymers and copolymers, polyolefine, rubbers, epoxy resins, plasticized PVC and polyurethane. If desired, one or more additional fire retardant(s) may be incorporated in the composition. Optionally, synergistic fire retardant additives such as antimony oxide, or organo-phosphorus compounds are also incorporated. The flame retardant polymer compositions have improved properties compared with those obtained with known flame retardant reagents. It was also unexpectedly found that the fire retardant additive provides to the polymer composition stability against ultraviolet light irradiation.

The present invention relates to intumescent fire retardant compositions for polymers such as olefin polymers, polyester resins, polyurethane resins etc. According to the invention, the intumescent fire retardant compositions contain a thermolized product obtained from a system comprising P.sub.2 O.sub.5 or a P.sub.2 O.sub.5 -precursor together with triethanolamine. The ratio between the constituents is between 0.5 to 2.0 parts by weight P.sub.2 O.sub.5 to 1 part triethanolamine. The intumescent fire retardant compositions according to the present invention obviate the need for using of halogen-containing fire retardants which produce acid vapors during decomposition.
