A system for fragmenting an eye lens nucleus has a first laser radiation source, configured to irradiate the eye lens nucleus with first radiationsuitable for Brillouin spectroscopy; an apparatusfor performing Brillouin spectroscopy with radiation scattered back from the eye lens nucleus in order to acquire Brillouin scattering measured data; a processing unitin or from which correlations between Brillouin scattering measured data and parameters of a second radiationsuitable for fragmenting the eye lens nucleusare stored or derived; and a second laser radiation sourcehaving radiation guiding means, configured to irradiate the eye lens nucleuswith the second radiation with the parameters correlated with the Brillouin scattering measured data of the irradiated eye lens nucleus, in order to fragment the eye lens nucleus.

In certain embodiments, marking a lenticule includes controlling a focus of pulsed laser radiation having ultrashort pulses. A lenticule marking is created in a cornea of an eye with the pulsed laser radiation to mark the lenticule. The lenticule is then created in the cornea with the pulsed laser radiation.

According to certain embodiments, a method for laser cutting treatment of a human eye comprises: determining position information of a pupil center of the eye in relation to a point of minimal corneal thickness in an undeformed state of the eye; locating the point of minimal corneal thickness in a flattened state of the eye, in which the eye is deformed by contact with a patient adapter of a laser device; and aligning a pulse firing pattern for laser radiation pulses of the laser device, based on a position of the located point of minimal corneal thickness and the determined position information. In embodiments, the pulse firing pattern represents, for example, a lenticular or doughnut-shaped intracorneal tissue volume which is to be removed from the cornea of the eye.

Centering technique for a cutting laser for refractive ophthalmic surgery

A method for preparing an endothelial corneal graft is provided. The method comprises: providing a donor cornea; irradiating the donor cornea from an endothelial side thereof with laser radiation to cause a photodisruption in tissue of the donor cornea at a focal point of the radiation; and moving the focal point of the radiation to form an endothelial graft in the donor cornea. By irradiating the donor cornea from the endothelial side thereof, instead of the epithelial side, to cut the endothelial graft, optical inhomogeneities which may develop after death in stromal tissue of the donor cornea leave the laser cutting process substantially unaffected.

In certain embodiments, refractive correction includes controlling a focus of pulsed laser radiation having ultrashort pulses. A channel is created with the pulsed laser radiation to facilitate separation of the lenticule from the eye. A posterior incision is created with the pulsed laser radiation to form a posterior side of the lenticule. An anterior incision is created with the pulsed laser radiation to form an anterior side of the lenticule.

Systems and methods for treating presbyopia are provided. In one embodiment, a system for photorefractive treatment of presbyopia includes a laser source configured for ablating corneal tissue and a control system in communication with the laser source and configured to control the laser source to ablate conical tissue of a patient to achieve a desired corneal shape. In some instances, the control system controls the laser source by calculating a global optimum regarding curvature and asphericity of the cornea. In some instances, control system controls the laser source by calculating a central steep island and calculating a curvature and asphericity for the rest of the cornea. In some embodiments, a laser source is controlled to ablate the cornea of the patient in accordance with a calculated shape profile to achieve a desired corneal shape.
