The invention is directed to a molded drum of thermoplastic material, in which the bungs are arranged in troughs on the drum-head and in which the troughs are open toward an adjacent L-shaped roller chime formed directly from the drum-body at some distance below the top end of the drum.

Drum with bungs

A plastic container for storing fluids having a neck (3) with an opening closed by means of a plastic cover (4) is disclosed. An annular portion of the cover (4) surrounds the neck (3) thus providing an inner rim (9) and an outer rim (8) in the cover (4). A first gasket (7) inserted between these rims is pressed against the upper edge of the neck (3) and a second radially and axially supported gasket (10) between the cover (4) and the neck (3) are compressed under the action of a means for biasing the cover (4) toward the neck (3) to seal the cover on the container. Means are provided to limit the motion of the cover (4) axially towards the neck (3) to prevent the first gasket (7) from being damaged.

A tamper-proof closure includes a seal cap and a lock ring for securement to a container having a screw cap. The lock ring has a first portion integrally formed with the bottom of portion of the seal cap and a second portion which is breakably detachable from the seal cap. The second portion of the lock ring is secured to the seal cap by spaced severable attachments. The first and second portions are separated by recesses one of which receives a projection on the container. The seal cap is secured over the screw cap by lips which are formed at its bottom edge and which catch the bottom edge of the screw cap.

Tamper-proof closure

An L-shaped roller chime is provided adjacent each end of a closed head drum. The drum is formed of a thermoplastic material and is blown into shape in an openable mold so that the drum has axially extending dividing seams. Each L-shaped chime has a first leg extending outwardly from the drum and a second leg extending generally perpendicularly to the first leg and in the axial direction of the drum. The depth of the groove formed by the first and second legs and the outer drum surface is uniform, however, the thickness of the first leg varies from a maximum at the dividing seams to a minimum intermediate the seams.

Roller chimes for closed head drums

In the production of closed head drums, integral L-shaped roller chimes are formed outwardly from the side walls of the drums. In producing the drums, a thermoplastic parison or tubular member is placed within a mold and is shaped by blowing it outwardly against the mold surfaces. In the blowing operation, an inwardly open channel-shaped part is formed in the tubular member, then by moving one part of the mold relative to another, the channel-shaped part is compressed into the L-shaped chime.

Method of manufacturing roller chimes for closed head drums

A container which has a body portion, a neck portion and a radially outwardly extending flange intermediate and integral with the body and neck portions is blow-molded in a mold which has at least two mold elements one of which is mounted on the other for displacement in the axial direction of the mold. The mold elements have chambers which substantially conform in shape to those of the body and the neck portions of the container, the mold elements together defining an annular recess in which an intermediate portion is formed during the blow-molding operation, such portion having a pair of radially outwardly extending sections, and a connecting section extending between radially outward marginal portions of the radial sections. After the blow-molding operation, while the material in the mold is still in a flowable state, the mold sections are displaced relative to one another to press the radial sections toward and against one another to fuse the same into a unitary flange having an axial thickness substantially twice that of the neck and body portions. A lid of the container has an external wall which surrounds the neck portion and has an additional flange, and a ring-shaped connecting element urges the flange and the additional flange toward one another in the axial direction of the container to sealingly contact a sealing ring with the lid and the neck portion, respectively.

An original closure member for the pouring spout of a container includes a screw cap and a separate safety ring. The safety ring includes a break-off section connected at one end to the remainder of the safety ring but being separate from the ring at its opposite end. A stop cam projects inwardly from the break-off section into the path of lugs extending downwardly from the lower end of the screw cap. The stop cam yields when the cap is screwed onto the pouring spout, however, when the cap is unscrewed, the stop cam is unyielding and, as a result, the break-off section separates from the rest of the safety ring.

A plastic container-cover assembly comprises (a) a container body having a top opening; (b) a first shoulder provided at the outside of the container close to the edge of its opening; (c) a cover for said opening; (d) an outside flange provided on said cover and extending downwardly and then at a sharp angle outwards, the outwardly pointed portion of the flange in the closed position abutting the upper side of said first container shoulder; (e) a hinge provided in proximity to the outer edge of said outwardly pointed portion of said flange; (f) at least two rigid closure flaps linked by said hinge to said flange for swinging from an open to a closed position; (g) a first ledge formed on said flap and, in the closed position, extending inwards and abutting against the bottom side of said first container shoulder; (h) a second, when closed, inwardly extending ledge formed on said flap spaced from said first ledge; (i) a second shoulder formed on the outside of said container spaced from said first shoulder, and (j) interlocking closure means formed on said second ledge of the flap and on the second shoulder of the container for securing the flap in the closed position.

Plastic container-cover assembly

A blow molded synthetic thermoplastic barrel one end wall of which has an eccentric opening surrounded be a ring-shaped mouth which, in turn, is surrounded by an arcuate groove having two open ends. The opening can be closed by a cover whose outer side is then flush with the outer surface of the major portion of the one end wall. Such outer surface is surrounded by a bead which can surround the other end wall of a second container when the two containers are stacked end-to-end. For the stacking of several containers side-by-side, the circumferential wall of the barrel has two longitudinally extending flats located diametrically opposite each other. The circular end portions of the flats extend into the domed end portions of the circumferential wall and close to the respective end walls.
